Sitapur: Shri Siddheshwar Mahadev Temple, located in Siddheshwar Nagar locality of Sidhauli Nagar Panchayat, 35 km from the district headquarters, is visited by devotees throughout the year. Lakhs of Shiva devotees come here to fulfill their desired wishes and seek blessings from Devadhidev Lord Shiva. It is believed that by performing Jalabhishek in this temple, all the wishes of the devotees are fulfilled.

What is the history of the temple?

It is believed that in ancient times, there used to be a forest at the place where the temple is located today. It is said that while cutting grass in the forest, a shepherd’s khurpi (grass cutting tool) touched the Swayambhu Shivalinga and blood started flowing from the Shivalinga. After this the shepherd got scared and ran home. After this, while sleeping at night, Lord Shiva appeared in the shepherd’s dream and asked him to clean the place and establish a temple. After which the shepherd cleaned the place and built a small temple and started worshiping.

After this, whatever wish the people who came here started getting fulfilled. Due to which people’s faith in this temple deepened and the fame of the temple increased. Every year lakhs of people from far and wide come here to have darshan of Shri Siddheshwar Mahadev. Especially during the month of Sawan, there is a rush of devotees here.

During the renovation of the temple in Samvat 2018, excavation up to 27 feet was done around the Swayambhu Shivalinga. But, no end was found for Shivalinga. After which the temple was grandly renovated while maintaining its original location at the same place. Since then, devotees have been maintaining and renovating the temple from time to time.

Special worship of Lord Shiva is done every Monday in Shri Siddheshwar Mahadev Temple. Apart from this, Aarti takes place here every day. People say that till date no one has left the court of Siddheshwar Mahadev Temple empty handed. The grandeur of the temple of Shani Dev, Ram Darbar and Radha-Krishna along with Lord Mukteshwar Mahadev and Mata Purnagiri located in the courtyard of the temple itself is worth seeing.
