Sidhpeeth Sukhro Devi Mandir
Sidhpeeth Sukhro Devi Mandir
The temple of Mata Sukhrodevi is situated on Laldhang Marg, Devi Road in Kotdwar, the entrance of Devbhoomi Uttarakhand. According to mythological legends, the first temple was established by Maharaja Dushyant in the Dwapar era at the place where this Sukhraudevi temple is situated. At that time this area was covered with forests and at this place there were ancient pairs of Banyan and Peepal trees under which the pilgrims going to Kanvashram used to rest. This Kanvashram is considered to be the birthplace of Maharaj Bharat. With time, settlements continued to be built and trees continued to be cut. When people saw the remains of the temple at this place, they started worshiping. According to the information received, idols were kept in two small niches which people used to worship.
Information has also been received that earlier a Baba Indragiri used to live here by building a hut. With the help of a woman, he had built two small temples which had become quite dilapidated. Out of these temples, the sanctum sanctorum of the goddess temple was made of cut stones. The outer chamber was made of bricks. From the sanctum sanctorum it appears that the sanctum sanctorum must have been built first. Gradually a committee was established for the upliftment of the temple. Local citizens also contributed a lot in the upliftment of the temple. With this contribution, Dharamshala and library were built. The local citizens have unwavering faith in the temple. The temple has beautiful statues and pictures of Durga, Parvati, Radhakrishna, Shiva and all the gods and goddesses.
