Baba Somnath is present on the banks of one of the few direct confluences in the country. The entire district has reverence for the abode of Lord Shiva present in Gothani of Chopan block. This place, which contains many historical symbols, is drenched in divine beliefs. Visiting this holy place called Guptkashi can be called the pinnacle of religious tourism. Gothani Somnath Temple, about 30 kilometers away from the district headquarters, can be called a museum of art and culture of hundreds of years ago. This place can be considered as a religious center in the more than 500 years old history of Agori dynasty. It is believed that wonderful encounters with Lord Shiva take place here.

History of the temple..

According to the inscriptions present here, Baba Somnath Temple was built in the 15th century. At that time Agori was under the rule of Kharwar dynasty. There are records of the role of King Mulagat in the construction of temples. Veer Lorik also has an association with this place. Offering water on the Shivalinga present here is considered very fruitful. Hundreds of statues have been excavated at this place. In which art and culture up to the 12th century comes to the fore. Dozens of stone tablets have been found on which the mystery about the written language still remains. The official symbol of Agori state is also present here. This temple is also associated with Agori Fort and the legend of Veer Lorik.

Specialty of the temple..

In the month of Sawan, there is a huge crowd of people offering water here. At present, the people taking care of the temple are constantly trying to provide convenient darshan to the devotees. A seven-day fair is also organized at this Dham during Shivratri.

People come here during Shivratri and Sawan month to offer water to Lord Shiva. Offering water has special significance here. There are only a few such big Dhams in the country at the direct confluence.
