Sri Dadh Devi Mata Temple
Sri Dadh Devi Mata Temple is ancient Temple is situated at a distance of 20 Km from Kota City at Ummed Ganj, District Kota, Rajasthan.The temple is dedicated to Dadh Devi Ji, a form of Goddess Durga.The temple is situated on the banks of Chambal River. It is surrounded by thick forests which makes is a place conducive for worship and meditation.
The deity worshipped here is Dadh Devi who has been named so because of her protruding molar teeth.Some devotees believe she is Rakta Dantika Devi (the goddess with blood-red teeth) who finds a mention in the Shakta and Tantric scriptures like Shri Devi Mahatmayam. The idol of Dadh Devi Mata is seated on a lion and has ten arms.
The Temple has been built of stone and lime mortar in Nagar style of architecture. It is based on a square platform with 12 pillars supporting the roof. Each pillar is adorned with carvings of lion and floral patterns. The dome of the Temple is round-shaped having a lotus flower on the top of it. A holy water kund which is filled with water coming from under the inner Temple is located in front of the Temple. The square shaped Sanctum Sanctorum has the stone idol of the ten-armed and three-eyed Goddess seated on a lion, holding a weapon in each arm.
This Temple was built in the 10th Century A.D. by the Tanwar Rajputs of Kaithoon who held Dadh Devi as their clan Goddess. Later on, the Maharaja of Kota Ummed Shingh Hada, built one more Temple near the main Temple and he wanted to shift the idol to this new Temple, but despite all his efforts, the idol did not move.
Although all Hindu festivals are celebrated here but the principal festivals are Navratras of Ashwin and Chaitra. During Navratras of Chaitra and Ashwin crowds of visitors are attracted to the temple.
