Krishnendra Guru was born towards the end of Eighteenth Century (18th Century) in Ananthapura district of Madras- Karnataka. He was born in the family of Rajapurohit and his Poorvashram name was “Ananth”.
He was drawn towards vedadhyayana from a very early age. He chose Kumbakonam for his vedhadhyana and was known as Anantha Shastry.
He left Kumbakonam in search of a sadguru and reached Kashi kshetra. His companion was Marthanda Dikshitha, father of Chidambara Dikshitha, presumed to be an avathar of Shri. Chidambareshwara of Gurlahosuru. Shri.Siddeshwara Maharaja who left his worldly body at Karaveerapura after gaining popularity in Kolhapura princely state was also his companion. All the three were in search of a guru. They prostrated before Shri.Swayamprakasha, a thaponishtha yati of Kashi,it is believed a magnet will attract iron and not stone. Here, the Guru estimated the caliber of these three shishyas through his divyadrishthi. He turned these shishyas into experts in vedas through sadupadesha. The guru had to undergo some torture because of janmanthara karma. It was destined that these three shishyas were to be tested for their devotion. The yathi invoked some disease using his tapobala. His body was covered with wounds, puss and blood and emanated foul smell.
All his disciples except these three abandoned the gurukula. These three never turned their backs but continued to nurse the Guru. Finally, the guru recovered and blessed them.
Shri. Swayamprakasha yati gave Sanyasa deeksha only to Anantha Shastry and gave him the name as Krishnendra. He was asked to travel towards South India by Shri.Swayamprakasha yati and after travelling several places Sri.Krishnendra Guru reached Hubballi and settled here.
Krishnendra Guru went on a pilgrimage and conducted Gayathri Punascharana. He brought people into the righteous path by discourses and showed his mahima in Karnataka.
His disciples were Sri.Narasimha Bhatt Agnihotri,Sri Ganesh Pant Sahasrabuddhe, Sri.Padaki Baavu Rao, Narasobawadi temple priest Sri.Appanna Bhattaru and Sri.Trivikrama Shastry.
Later, realizing that the end is not far off, he came to Hubballi and started Gayathri Punascharana under a dry oudumbara vriksha. Soon, the dry tree sprang to life. After some time, the Guruji attained Samadhi under the same tree. Soon after, the tree also withered away.
Since then, the Guruji though invisible to the eyes, stands personified to the eyes of the devotees. The place is still awake and alive. There are several people who have got rid of their diseases and evil spirits by a single darshana. He is there to fulfill the desires of devotees. Daily poojas and deeparadhane are being held for the past several years. Every year, aradhana is held on 13th and 14th days of Kartheeka shuddha. In this connection, Mukthadwara Annasantharpane is also arranged. And the number of devotees is increasing year by year.
