Sri Kshetra Haddinakallu Hanumantharaya Temple
Sri Kshetra Haddinakallu Hanumantharaya Temple is located in the town of Haddinakallu near Byrasandra of Mandya District -Karnataka. It is dedicated to Lord Hanuman and the temple is believed to have been built in the 8th century by a local ruler and is a historic site. The temple is known for its beautiful architecture and is a popular pilgrimage site for devotees of Lord Hanuman.
Haddinakallu Hanumantharaya Swamy temple under a shed at the top of the hill. The interior of the temple has a stone pillar with Hanuman carved on it. The pillar also had a figure of Indrajith carved beneath Hanuman.
The Pillar of Haddinakallu Hanumantharaya Swamy is believed to be brought from Belur during the 12th century AD. There is one more small pillar in front of the main Hanuman pillar. It is believed that the pillar is the broken part of the main pillar.
Indrajit son of Ravana is also worshiped along with Sri Hanumantharaya Swamy.On the left side of the entrance to the Haddinakallu betta there is a separate shrine dedicated to Indrajith, Son of Ravana.
The place gets it names from three different stories. Story one says that Lord Sri Hanuman kept his first step below the hill and the second on top of the hill and looking after the place sharp as eagles eye. Second story is that during the time of Chola Dynasty, the place was covered with lot of eagles. While the Cholas carried the idol of Lord Hanuman from below the hill to the top, they passed the eagles without any trouble. As if the Eagles respected Lord Sri Hanuman. The final story is that the idol of Lord Hanuman looks like an Eagle with it arms stretched. Idol of Indrajit the eldest son of Ravana is present below Sri Anjaneya idol.
Many devotees visit this temple to nullify the effects of witchcraft.
