Narsingh Hanuman Temple in the area of Chandni Chowk in Old Delhi is a well-known religious site dedicated to two important Hindu deities—Lord Hanuman and Lord Narsingh, an avatar of Lord Vishnu. This temple is also known as the Siddh Peeth Mandir Shri Patthar Wale Hanuman Baba.

The temple combines the worship of Lord Hanuman with Lord Narasimha, as both deities symbolize strength, protection, and the destruction of evil. Hanuman, a devotee of Lord Vishnu, is often associated with his avatars, including Narasimha. Some legends suggest that Hanuman, being a devoted follower of Lord Vishnu, took inspiration from Narasimha’s fierce form while battling demons.

Devotees affectionately refer to the temple as “Patthar Wale Baba,” highlighting its deep-rooted spiritual significance in the community. The temple’s architecture includes a gold-painted pillar adorned with a painting of Lord Hanuman on its topmost storey, adding to its visual grandeur.

Believed to be over 300 years old, the temple’s origin is linked to the discovery of a Hanuman idol beneath a peepal tree, prompting its establishment during the later Mughal era which has become a significant place of worship.

The temple houses a significant 100-kilogram silver idol of Lord Hanuman, embellished with over 60 kilograms of golden ornaments. This idol is a focal point of devotion for many visitors and is a testament to the temple’s rich cultural heritage.

The temple is renowned for its exquisite Vaishnav frescoes, considered among the finest in Delhi. The interior walls feature gold-painted frescoes depicting various forms of Lord Vishnu, including a notable scene of Lord Hanuman worshiping Lord Rama, Sita, and Laxman.

The temple is renowned for its spiritual healing practices, including the Siddh Shri Hanuman Mahayagna and Raksha Jhadda rituals. These ceremonies are believed to ward off negative energies and provide relief from severe diseases like Cancer,Tuberculosis and any other major diseases, promoting good health and longevity.

Sri Narasingh Hanuman Mandir celebrates several major festivals with great fervor, drawing devotees from across the region. Hanuman Jayanti, marking Lord Hanuman’s birth, is the most significant, featuring special poojas, abhishekam, and chanting of the Hanuman Chalisa. Narasimha Jayanti, dedicated to Lord Narasimha, involves Vedic rituals, havans, and fasting. Ram Navami, celebrating Lord Rama’s birth, includes readings of the Ramayana and devotional singing. Festivals like Diwali and Holi see the temple adorned with lights and colors, symbolizing joy and the triumph of good over evil. Weekly observances on Tuesdays and Saturdays attract regular worshippers, while Navratri and Makara Sankranti bring additional poojas and community gatherings. An annual Rath Yatra is a grand event where idols of Lord Hanuman and Lord Narasimha are paraded through the streets, accompanied by music and devotional chanting, making the temple a hub of spiritual and cultural activity.
