Sri Rajarajeswara Temple Taliparamba,Kannur,Kerala

Share

The Rajarajeswara temple, a famous temple in Kerala with beautiful architecture, is located at Thaliparamba Town in the Kannur district. The presiding deity of this temple is Lord Raja Rajeswar (Lord Shiva). This temple is eye-catching with a quadrangular sanctum. Besides its two-tiered pyramidal roof, there is a namaskara mandapam in front of the shrine. Unlike other temples in the state, the Rajarajeshwara temple has no kodi maram (flagstaff). The temple does not allow the entry of non-Hindus. It is one of the existing 108 ancient Shiva Temples of the state and a must-visit pilgrim center. The top of the temple has nearly 90 tons.

Devotees seek solution through a special way of astrological decision-making named Prasna whenever other temples in South India encounter problems. It is performed on a raised platform called Peedha outside the temple. This temple is believed to be built by Lord Parasurama even before the commencement of Kali Yuga. The Rajarajeswara temple was renovated later by the kings of the Mushika (Kolathiri) dynasty. The nearest railway station, Pazhayangadi is 15 kilometers from the temple. Kozhikode International Airport is 139 kilometers from this pilgrim center in Kerala.
