Sri Senkazhuneer/Sengazhuneer Vinayaka Temple Tiruvallur
Sengazhuneer Vinayagar Temple is a Hindu Temple dedicated to Lord Ganesha located at Thottikalai Village near Thiruvallur Town in Tamilnadu. Dedicated to Lord Ganesha, the deity revered as the remover of obstacles and the granter of wishes, the temple holds immense religious significance among devotees.
Sri Senkazhuneer Vinayagar temple is a revered pilgrimage site is known for its exquisite architecture and the divine presence of Lord Vinayagar. Sengazhuneer is a type of flower, similar to a lotus, that is offered to gods and deities.
The presiding deity of the temple is Lord Senkazhuneer Vinayagar, a majestic idol of Ganesha carved from a single piece of red coral. The idol is adorned with precious ornaments and jewels, and is believed to be highly potent in fulfilling the wishes of devotees.
According to legend, the temple was consecrated by Lord Brahma, the creator of the universe. It is believed that Brahma performed a penance at this site and was blessed with the vision of Lord Ganesha emerging from the red lotus that grew out of the lake nearby.
Although this is a small temple, there is a sacred text about this Vinayakar called Sengaluneer Vinayakar Pillai Tamil, written by Sri Madhava Sivagnana Swamigal of Thiruvavaduthurai Adinam in 1771 AD. The ancient name of Thottikalai was Kalasai.
In addition to the regular poojas, special poojas are conducted on occasions like Vinayagar Chaturthi, Sankatahara Chaturthi, and Fridays.
