Temple History
Three hundred years ago, Sri Shiva Rama Bhattu from Karnataka traveled to Tirumala by foot. He was a devotee of Lord Ganapathi. On the day of Sankatahara Chaturthi, wherever he stayed, Lord Vinayaka would appear for his worship. Long ago, Rudraram was a forest area, and Shiva Rama Bhattu reached there. On Sankatahara Chaturthi, he created an idol of Vinayaka from a large stone, out of his devotion. He worshiped Lord Ganesha, made an offering to the idol, and continued his journey. Since then, people have been worshipping this idol.
In the past, this temple was a sanctuary for saints. Over time, the temple fell into ruins but has recently been restored. Many pilgrims now visit this temple daily. The main shrine has a large entrance hall. Inside, Lord Ganesha appears in an acorn (sindhoora) color. The idol that Sri Shiva Rama Bhattu consecrated became hidden, but a devotee named Makham Das later discovered it. While riding a horse, Makham Das felt the horse stop suddenly in this area, and he sensed Lord Ganapathi’s presence, instructing him to build a temple. Following this vision, he built the temple. The temple once fell into disrepair but was successfully restored a few years ago.
Typically, acorn-colored (sindhoora) Ganesha idols are found in northern India. In the south, Ganesha idols are usually black, but this one is acorn-colored, and it faces south. According to legend, worshipping this acorn-colored Ganesha brings quick blessings. The temple celebrates festivals like Sankatahara Chaturthi, Vinayaka Chaviti,Navaratri, and Mahashivaratri with great devotion.
The Ganesh Gadda Temple holds immense spiritual significance for devotees, who believe that worshipping Lord Ganesha at this sacred site brings blessings, prosperity, and success in endeavors while removing obstacles from their path.
