Story of the previous life of the washerman who insulted Sita
Maharaj Janak ruled in a city named Mithila. His name was Siradhwaj. Once when he was plowing the earth for a yagya, a virgin girl appeared from the deep line made by the plough. The king was very happy to see a girl more beautiful than Rati and he named her Sita.
One day the most beautiful Sita was playing in the garden with her friends. There he saw a pair of shrew birds, which was very beautiful. Those two birds were sitting on the top of a mountain and speaking like this, ‘On earth there will be a very beautiful king known by the name of Shri Ram. His queen will be known as Sita. Shri Ram will rule with Sita for eleven thousand years. Blessed is Janaki Devi and blessed is Shri Ram.
Seeing the parrots talking like this, Sita thought that both of them were telling the story of her life, so I should hold them and ask them everything. Thinking this, she said to her friends, ‘This pair of birds is beautiful, you all go secretly and catch it.’
The friends went to that mountain and caught both the beautiful birds.
Sita said to those birds, ‘Both of you are very beautiful; Look, don’t be afraid. Tell me, who are you and where do you come from? Who is Ram? And who is Sita? How did you get to know about them? Tell me everything as soon as possible. Don’t be afraid.’
When Sita asked this, both the birds started telling everything, ‘Devi! There is a great Maharishi known by the name Valmiki. We both live in his ashram. Maharishi has written a book named Ramayana which always seems dear to the mind. He has also made his disciples study that Ramayana. The art of Ramayana is very vast. We have heard him in full.
We tell you who Ram and Janaki are and also inform you about what is going to happen about Janaki; You listen carefully.
Due to the influence of Putreshti Yagya performed by Maharishi Rishyashranga, Lord Vishnu will appear in the four bodies of Ram, Lakshman, Bharat and Shatrughan. Goddesses will also sing his beautiful story.
Shri Ram Maharshi will reach Mithila along with Vishwamitra along with brother Lakshman with bow in hand. At that time there he will break Lord Shiva’s bow and take the very beautiful Sita as his wife. Then Shri Ram will rule his vast kingdom with them only. We heard these and many more things there. Beautiful! We told you everything. Now we want to go, leave us.
Hearing these very sweet words of the birds, Sita kept them in her mind and again asked both of them, ‘Where will Ram be? Whose son are they and how will they come and receive Janaki? How would his Shri Deity be in human form?’
Hearing his questions, Shuki knew in her heart that this was Sita. Recognizing him, she came forward and fell at his feet and said, Shri Ramchandra’s face will be as beautiful as a lotus bud. The eyes will be big and blooming, the nose will be high, thin and beautiful. The arms will reach till the knees, the throat will be like a conch. The chest area will be good and wide. It will have the symbol of Shrivatsa.Shri Ram is going to assume such a beautiful form. How can I describe them? Even he who has a hundred faces cannot describe their qualities. Then what is the fate of a bird like us? Blessed is Goddess Janaki who will soon live happily with Raghunath ji for thousands of years. But beautiful! Who are you?
Listening to the birds, Sita spoke about her birth and said, ‘The one whom you people are calling Janaki, I am the daughter of Janak. I will leave you both only when Shri Ram comes here and accepts me. You live happily in my house, playing as you wish.’
Hearing this, Shuki said to Janaki, ‘Sadhvi! We are birds of the forest. We will not find happiness in your house. I am pregnant, I will go to my place and give birth to a child. After that I will come here again.
Even after he said this, Sita did not leave him. Then her husband said, ‘Sita! Leave my wife. She is pregnant. When she gives birth to children, I will come back to you with her.’ When the parrot said this, Janaki said, ‘Mahamate! You can go easily, but this is what I love. I will keep it with me with great pleasure.’
When Sita refused to leave the bird, the bird became extremely sad. He said in a compassionate voice, ‘Whatever the yogis say is the truth, do not say anything to anyone, remain silent, otherwise the mad person falls into bondage due to the fault of his words. If we had not sat on top of this mountain and talked, then how would we have achieved this bond. Therefore one should remain silent.Having said this, the bird said again, ‘Beautiful! I cannot survive without this wife of mine, so leave her. Sita! You are very good, please accept my request.’ In this way he explained a lot, but Sita did not leave his wife, then his wife, distraught with anger and sorrow, cursed Janaki, ‘Just as you are treating me like your husband at this time. In the same way, you yourself will have to be separated from Shri Ram in the state of pregnancy.’
Saying this, she died due to separation from her husband. He had sacrificed his life remembering Shri Ramchandra ji and chanting the name of Ram again and again, hence a beautiful plane came to take him and the bird sat on it and went to the abode of God.
After the death of his wife, the bird, filled with grief, said, ‘I will be born in Ayodhya, the city of Shri Ram, full of humans, and because of my words, she will have to suffer the great pain of separation from her husband.’
He said this and left. Due to anger and insult to Sita ji, he was born in the womb of a washerman.
Sita ji was insulted by the words of that washerman and she had to separate from her husband. The curse of that parrot born in the form of a washerman was the reason for Sita’s separation from her husband and she went to the forest.
Jai Shri Ram
