Jalore. The famous ancient Sureshwar Mahadev pilgrimage site located on Aisrana mountain is the center of folk faith in the entire district including the area. People visit Sureshwar Mahadev seated in the holy cave of the mountain and make a wish. The philosophy behind their establishment is also different. It is said that Sureshwar Mahadev was established here about 700 years ago. From then till today, this temple is famous as a place of penance and a holy and beautiful place. According to popular belief, the history of this area is 700 years old. Sursingh Udavat of Samuja village was very fond of hunting. They believed in pursuing the prey alone and ultimately killing the desired animal. It is said that one day, while hunting in the forests near Samuja, Surasingh saw a huge boar and started chasing it. Surasingh kept chasing that boar with a spear in his hand. According to popular belief, that pig was the incarnation of Mahadev. Sursingh followed him and reached near the cave. When they reached inside the cave, they were surprised to not find the pig inside. There Lord Shankar appeared to him in the form of a six-month old child and said that the pig has now been established here forever in the form of Sureshwar Mahadev. Hearing Mahadev’s order, Sur Singh immediately resolved to give up his hobby of hunting. He consecrated Sureshwar Mahadev at the same place and returned to Samuja immersed in devotion.
