Tarakeshwar (Tarakeshwar Mahadev Temple) Mirzapur

Tarakeshwar Mahadev Temple is located in Mirzapur city of Uttar Pradesh. Tarakeshwar Mahadev, situated in the east of Vindhyachal, has also been described in the Puranas. There is a pond located near the temple. It is believed that a demon named Tarak had dug a pond near the temple.Lord Shiva himself had killed Tarak. That is why he is also called Tarakeshwar Mahadev. Many Shivalingas are situated near the pond. According to the legend, Lord Vishnu had dug a pond towards the west of Tarakeshwar and built a temple of Lord Shiva.Additionally, it is also said that Tarakeshwar is the abode of Goddess Lakshmi. Goddess Lakshmi resides here in Vaishnavi form along with Goddess Saraswati in other forms.
