The incident of Jamvanti becoming Roopmati
Jambavan recognized his Lord Shri Ramji in the form of Shri Krishna and married his daughter Jamwanti to Lord Shri Krishna and also gifted the Samyantak Mani to Shri Krishna as a gift.
Jambavan was a bear, hence his daughter Jamvanti was also the daughter of a bear. Who was not as beautiful as other queens of Shri Krishna. Shri Krishna was suspicious that other queens would make fun of Jamvanti after seeing him. Even if no other queen does, Rukmani will definitely make fun of Jamwanti.
To ensure that no one makes fun of Jamwanti and that Jamwanti does not feel guilty, Shri Krishna covered Jamwanti with a complete veil and brought her to Dwarka. When this news reached Dwarka that Shri Krishna had married Jamwanti, everyone came to see Jamwanti but due to Jamwanti being veiled, no one could see her.
When Rukmani asked Shri Krishna to remove the veil of Jamvanti, he said that Jamvanti is very beautiful and if anyone visits her, he will be blindsided, hence she will remain in the veil. When Rukmani asked if Jamwanti was more beautiful than me, Krishna said that Jamwanti was more beautiful than her. Saying this, he sent Jamwanti to her room and ordered no one to enter her room.
Hearing the praise of Jamwanti from Shri Krishna’s mouth, Rukmani became jealous and decided that she would definitely see Jamwanti’s form. How can any other queen be more beautiful than Rukmani whom even Shri Krishna is not allowing anyone to see. With these thoughts, Rukmani started looking for an opportunity to go to Jamwanti’s room.
When Shri Krishna went to give the Samyantak Mani to Satrajit, Rukmani ji took the opportunity and went to Jamwanti’s room. Seeing Rukmani coming into the room, Jamwanti pulled her veil and touched Rukmani’s feet. Seeing Jamwanti pulling the veil, Rukmani became even more jealous of Jamwanti’s beauty and in the same jealousy, she touched Jamwanti’s feet and gave her full blessing, “Jamwanti, you too become like Rukmani.
Along with giving blessings, Rukmani removed Jamvanti’s veil. Rukmani was also surprised to see Jamwanti’s appearance, because by then the blessing she had given to Jamwanti had come to fruition and had become a boon for Jamwanti. Rukmani saw Jamwanti as beautiful as herself, and the plan made by Shri Krishna succeeded.
