This is the most unusual temple in the world

Share

This is the most unusual temple in the world. This temple is 23.58 x 7 feet open. Lord Krishna is always seated here. This 1500 years old temple is located in Tiruvarppu in Kottayam district of Kerala. It is believed that the idol of Lord Krishna is always hungry, so this temple is kept open for 23.58 hours, 365 days.
Another specialty of this temple is that the priest is given a key to open the door and an axe is also given along with it. People believe that Krishna cannot tolerate hunger and hence if there is any delay in opening the door with the key in just two minutes, the priest is allowed to break the door with an axe.
The temple remains closed for 2 minutes only. 11.58 a.m. to 12.00 p.m. There is a popular belief that the idol of Lord Krishna installed in the temple is of a very tired Sri Krishna after killing Kansa. So, after the Abhishekam is over, Swami’s head dries up first and by the time naivedayam is offered to him, his body dries up. Naivedayam is offered 10 times a day. Another specialty of this temple is that it does not close even during eclipses. People believe that this is Lord Krishna going hungry. Once the temple was closed during an eclipse. When the priest opened the door he found that the sash’s waist belt had slipped down. Sri Adi Shankaracharya, who came to the temple at that time, explained that this happened because Lord Krishna was left very hungry. Since then, they ended the tradition of closing the temple even during eclipse period. Lord Krishna’s sleeping time is only two minutes daily from 11.58 pm to 12.00 pm. Temple opening timings are from 12.00 noon to 11.58 pm. The temple address is, Tiruvarppu Krishna Temple, Tiruvarppu -686020

No devotee is allowed to leave without consuming prasadam. Every day at 11.57 pm before closing the temple the priest calls out loudly “Is anybody here?” This is to ensure the participation of all devotees in the Prasadam.

Another important thing is once you taste Prasadam, you will never remain hungry throughout your life and you will not have any problem in getting food throughout your life. Lord Krishna constantly takes care of all the devotees who pray and take prasad here.
