Sri Nagamman temple is located at Thumbur in Vikravandi Taluk- Tamilnadu.This 1450 years old temple is related to sthala puranam of Thiruvamathur Thevara temple.

This miraculous snake goddess in this temple is called ‘Nagakanni and in this temple we can see the head in one place, the body in one place, and the tail ten kilometers away.

Tiruvattapparai here is a boon for kings in terms of unsolved cases. If a person is thought to be lying, it is customary to ask him to climb on this rock and make him swear.Perhaps it is a belief that if the assailant tells a lie, his eyes will go blind and he will die of a snake bite.

Head History

At a place called Amathur (near Villupuram there was an area called Tiruvattapparal.

Once a case came before the king who ruled this area. A brother complained that his brother had taken away all the property share due to him.The brother sold his property and the property belonging to his brother and bought precious stones from the amount. He kept it inside a hollow pole and kept it in his hand like a crutch.

The king called his brother and questioned him. The brother denied the charge and told the King that his brother was lying.But the King ordered to search his brother’s house, accordingly the brother’s house was searched. There was nothing found in the house except the crutch.The king was confused.He went up to Tiruvattapparal to take an oath.

He ordered both the brothers to come over Handing the stick in his hand very
resourcefully to his brother, the brother swore, “Now my property and my brother’s property are in my brother’s hands. I have nothing.” Nothing happened to him.The brother was shocked. Having received his stick, the brother pretended to be good and walked away from there After going some distance, he said to his friends, “See! I have got my talent and property. I have made my brother’s name bad. They said that Tiruvattapparai is very powerful. They said that the snake will bite me. It didn’t happen in my case,” he said with a big smile.

At that moment, the snake under the circular rock got up, drove away the brother. He ran a long way. He jumped into the underworld. A long snake chased him for a distance of six miles abd killed him somewhere.

Head at the place of killing (Tumpur), body in the field where he was chased, tail part 10 km from Tumpur. Amathur in the distance can still be seen surrounding the body of Muthambikai.
