Devoted to Goddess Kali/Durga. Calimed to be the birthplace of Kalidas, it has evolved into an important local pilgrimage site. There are sculptures and artworks based on important figures in Hindu mythology, including that of Yagvalkya who is supposed to be born a few miles from this madir i.e. Jagban.

This is Uchhaitha Bhagwati temple. It is a very historic place in Mithila, the place where Maithil Mahakabi Kalidasa got enlightened by maa Bhagwati. Near the temple, you will find many shops where you can get all kinds of things for worship.

According to mythology, the great Kalidasa attained enlightenment from the Goddess Durga at this very spot. It is a serene and picturesque location. This temple is considered a Shaktipeeth and is also the site of tantric rituals.

Located in the historical region of Mithila or Mithilanchal, this temple is situated around 5kms away from Benipatti in Madhubani district of North Bihar . It is said that all the prayers are answered once you offer puja at the lotus feet of the holy goddess. There is a pond beside the temple where devotees can take a holy dip before offering their pujas. People take water from this pond in an urn and offer it to all the Goddess.. the Sanctum Sanctorum contains a statue of Goddess Durga carved out in black stone. It is one of the most popular and important religious places in Bihar and also India. The temple complex houses the statues and images of many other Gods and goddesses.

It’s story is very interesting. Long long back, in one mid night, when the nearby river was outflooded, a challange was put for all to cross the river in a Gurukul, where Kalidas was serving as cook. He accepted the challange and crossed the river. For creating an evidence, he put a cross sign on Maa Bhagawati. Maa Bhagwati appeared and asked for his wish. Kalidas wished to be a great scholar. Maa blessed with condition to go through (just skipping the pages) the books that night, all content will go to his memory. Overnight he became highly scholar.

Ucchaith Bhagwati is one of the most religious places of Mithila. It is located in Madhubani District and People visit the place for blessings and offer Chhagar whenever their wishes are fulfilled.
