Umanath Temple
Umanath temple is a witness to thousands of years of history. Actually, there is less evidence and more popular rumors regarding the establishment of the temple. According to a legend, Lord Shri Ram was traveling from Ayodhya to Janakpur in Tretayuga. Stopping on the picturesque banks of Uttarvahini Ganga, Shri Ram worshiped Lord Shiva and since then the temple was established here. According to another legend, hundreds of years ago it was decided to uproot the Shivalinga present in the temple and install it in the middle of the temple. Excavation started on the banks of Shivalinga so that the Shivalinga could be removed and installed at another place. The digging went deeper and the size of the Shivalinga inside the earth increased. Excavation was done for more than fifty feet but the end of Shivalinga could not be found. The priest of the temple says that then Lord Shiva himself appeared in the dreams of the people engaged in digging and said that he is Adi Umanath. After that people stopped digging. For this reason, this form of Mahadev is also called Sprouted Mahadev. Umanath Temple, a beautiful example of ancient architecture, is also identified as Kashi of Bihar. There are only a few Shiva temples in the country on the banks of Uttarayan Ganga. Umanath temple is one of them. It is believed that after emerging from Gomukh, river Ganga turns Uttarayan i.e. Uttaragami at some places in the entire country. These include Banaras, Umanath and Sultanganj. For this reason it is also called Kashi of Bihar.
