Legend
It is believed that Sages and Devas performed penance on Lord Murugan for his divine darshan. Lord Murugan appeared to them in the form of light (Jyothi) and then he gave darshan in the form of Hunter with bows and arrows. Sages built this Temple for Lord Murugan. In due course of time, the temple got dilapidated and lost to sand. During 13th Century, this area was ruled Chithrakadavan, a local Pallava chieftain. His cows used to graze the forest area where the temple was present. When the cows returned back to palace, the cows did not milk.
Astonished King wanted to know the reason by himself. Next day he followed the cows and surprised to see the cows milking automatically near the bush. He instructed his soldiers to clear the bush. During the process, the shovel hit an object and blood started oozing out. Shocked King instructed his soldiers to check slowly and they found the beautiful Muruga Idol.
Lord instructed King to build a temple for him in his dreams. Pious King built the temple for Lord Murugan in this place.
As the temple is currently under administration, the name of the temple was given as Villudayan Patti Subramaniar Temple. But the name Veludayan Pattu has remained.
