This revered temple is said to have been built by Banjaras. The cattle traders from Banjaras who used to live here vanished with their animals in an instant.
When the Banjaras went outside to find their livestock, they came across this young girl. When the Banjaras informed her that their animals had gone missing, the girl suggested that they make wishes here in this place of the mother.
However, the Banjaras claimed they were unaware of the mother’s residence in this area. As a signal, the girl threw a stone. Mother appeared at the location where she had thrown the stone. The Banjaras then worshipped the mother there for a while before discovering their missing animals. When their wish was granted, the Banjaras built this temple. As soon as word of this occurrence spread, many people began flocking here to pray.
This Vijayasan Devi statue is thought to be 400 years old and self-manifested. As per myth, Durga, in the form of her Mahishasurmardini incarnation, defeated this location by slaying the demon Raktabeej. Then, while still seated in this position, he triumphantly performed atonement for the sake of humanity. As a result, she was given the name Vijayasan Devi.
Two unbroken lamps have been burning in the temple’s sacristy for around 400 years. Both have been lit, one with ghee and one with coconut oil. In their Sakshat Devi incarnation, these Sakshat Jots are revered. Dhuni is also on fire in the temple. This dhuni was lit by Swami Bhadranand and his followers. Only the ashes of this undamaged Dhuni have been offered as Mahaprasad since then.
