Virat Shiv Mandir/Virateshwar Temple Shahdol Madhya Pradesh
Shahdol’s huge Shiva temple
Lord Bholenath is present in the form of Shivalinga in the Virat temple. This temple was established in the 11th century by King Yuvraj Dev I of Kalchuri period. This temple resembles the Khajuraho temples of the Chandela rulers. The length of the temple is 46 feet and height is 72 feet. Nandi is seated outside the temple. The statue of Nandi has worn out a bit due to rain and sun. The statues carved on stone on the outside of the temple walls are completely reminiscent of the sculpture art of Khajuraho.
