Wat Phu Museum
Great UNESCO spotted historical ruins! You just simply go along the lakes and enjoy picturesque landscape while approaching the stairs and temples.
Remember that it’s almost same great historical location as Angkor, almost same overwhelming feelings. Small but informative museum. There are some scriptures and statues of Hindu Gods and Buddha. Maps and details of the temple can be found here. Smallish exhibition of Khmer and Hindu stone artifacts. The maps are interesting to get an overview of the archeological sites and trails in the area.
The museum itself has a collection of Khmer and Hindu artefacts/statues with some background information in Lao, English and French.
There are also some information boards about the temple complex which are useful as there is very little information once you are up at the temple, so worth coming here to read about what you have seen.
Also an interesting collection of photographs from 19th-century French expeditions to this temple and others in the region. In particular the Lingam collection relating to the Hindu Shiva worship of this complex is diverse and remarkable. The site itself was chosen for its Lingam-shaped mountain, with its water dripping down the spring still considered holy even by the Buddhist traditions that followed.
