Why did Hanumanji become Panchmukhi?

There was a fierce battle with the very powerful Meghnad in Lanka, ultimately Meghnad was killed. Ravana, who was still intoxicated, became a little tense after hearing the bravery of Ram’s army, especially Lakshman.

Seeing Ravana somewhat sad, Ravana’s mother Kaikasi reminded him of his two brothers, Ahiravan and Mahiravan, who lived in the underworld. Ravana remembered that both of them had been his childhood friends.

After becoming the king of Lanka, he was in no mood. Ravana knew very well that Ahiravana and Mahiravana were great scholars of Tantra-Mantra, experts in witchcraft and great devotees of Mother Kamakshi.

Ravana sent him a call and asked him to destroy Shri Ram and Lakshman with his deceit, power and skill. Vibhishan came to know about this through messengers. Vibhishana became worried due to the involvement of supreme illusionists like Ahiravana and Mahiravana in the war.

Vibhishan felt that the security arrangements for Lord Shri Ram and Lakshman would have to be tightened. For this, he felt it was best that the responsibility of this should be handed over to the supreme hero Hanuman ji, Ram-Lakshman. At the same time, he was also busy monitoring himself.

Ram-Lakshman’s hut was built on Suvel mountain in Lanka. Hanuman ji drew a security circle around the hut of Lord Shri Ram. No witchcraft effect or illusory demon could enter inside it.
Ahiravana and Mahiravana reached the hut of Shri Ram and Lakshman to kill them, But in front of this security cordon they could not stand it and failed. In such a situation, he played a trick, Mahiravan assumed the form of Vibhishana and entered the hut.

Ram and Lakshman were sleeping deeply on flat stones. Without a sound, both the demons picked up the two brothers along with Shila and took them towards their abode, the underworld.

Vibhishan was constantly alert, he realized within some time that some untoward incident had happened. Vibhishana was suspicious of Mahiravana and started worrying about the lives of Ram and Lakshman.
Vibhishana told Hanuman ji about Mahiravana and asked him to chase him.It was not right for Ram devotee Hanuman to roam in Lanka in his own form, so he took the form of a bird and reached Nikumbhala city in the form of a bird.

In the city of Nikumbhala, Hanuman ji, in the form of a bird, heard the pigeon and the pigeon talking among themselves. The pigeon was telling the pigeon that now Ravana’s victory is certain. Ahiravana and Mahiravana will sacrifice Ram-Lakshman, the whole war will end.

It was from the words of the pigeon that Bajrangbali came to know that the two demons had taken Ram Lakshman while he was sleeping and taken him to the underworld to sacrifice him to Goddess Kamakshi. Hanuman ji moved towards the abyss with the speed of wind and immediately reached there.

Hanuman ji found a wonderful guard at the entrance of the abyss. Half of its body was that of a monkey and half that of a fish, it stopped Hanuman ji from entering the underworld.

The gatekeeper told Hanuman ji that it is impossible for you to go inside without defeating me. A fight broke out between the two. Contrary to Hanuman ji’s expectations, he turned out to be a very strong and skilled warrior.
Both were very strong, there was a very fierce battle between them, But he could not stand in front of Bajrangbali. At last Hanuman ji defeated him but could not stop from praising that gatekeeper.

Hanuman ji asked that brave man, O brave man, please introduce yourself. Your appearance is also such that it arouses curiosity. That brave man replied – I am the son of Hanuman and was born from a fish, my name is Makardhwaj.

When Hanuman ji heard this, he was surprised. He started listening to Veer, Makardhwaj said – After the burning of Lanka, Hanuman ji went to the sea to cool his fire, sweat in the form of sweat fell from his body.
At that time my mother opened her mouth for food. My mother took that juice in her mouth and became pregnant. I was born from that. When Hanuman ji heard this, he told Makardhwaj that he was Hanuman.

Makardhwaj touched the feet of Hanuman ji and Hanuman ji also hugged his son and told the whole reason for coming there. He told his son to help protect his father’s master.

Makardhwaj told Hanuman ji that the demons were going to come for sacrifice in some time. It would be better if you change your form and go and sit in the temple of Kamakshi. Ask them to do all the puja through the window

Hanuman ji first disguised himself as a bee and entered the temple of Mother Kamakshi. Hanuman ji greeted Mother Kamakshi and wished for success and then asked – O Mother, do you really want the sacrifice of Shri Ram ji and Lakshman ji?

On this question of Hanuman ji, Mother Kamakshi replied no. I want the sacrifice of evil Ahiravana and Mahiravana. Both of them are my devotees but are also unrighteous and oppressors. You try your best. You will be successful.

Five lamps were burning in the temple at different directions and places, mother said that Ahiravan has lit these lamps for my happiness, the day they can be extinguished together, his end will be assured.
Meanwhile, the noise of musical instruments started being heard. Ahiravana, Mahiravana were coming to offer sacrifice. Hanuman ji now took the form of Mother Kamakshi. When Ahiravan and Mahiravan were about to enter the temple, Hanuman ji’s female voice echoed.

Hanuman ji said- I am Kamakshi Devi and today worship me through the window. The puja started from the window. A lot of offerings were made to Mother Kamakshi through the window. In the end, Ram Lakshman was also thrown there as a hostage sacrifice. Both were unconscious in bondage.

Hanuman ji immediately freed him from bondage. Now it was the turn to leave the underworld, but before that, Ahiravana’s wish was to be fulfilled by sacrificing Mahiravana in front of Mother Kamakshi and both the demons were yet to be punished for their actions.
Now Hanuman ji told Makardhwaj to take special care of Lord Ram and Lakshman lying in an unconscious state and along with him he waged war against both the demons.

But this war was not easy. If Ahiravana and Mahiravana had died with great difficulty, they would have come back alive as five. In this critical situation, Makardhwaj told that Ahiravana has a wife named Nagkanya.

Ahiravan has brought him back. She doesn’t like him, but is with him willingly, she must know Ahiravana’s secrets. He should be asked the reason for his death. You go to him and ask for help.
Makardhwaj kept the demons engaged in the war and on the other hand Hanuman reached Ahiravana’s wife. He told Nagakanya that if you tell the secret of Ahiravana’s death, we will kill him and free you from his clutches.

Ahiravana’s wife said- My name is Chitrasena. I am a devotee of Lord Vishnu. Ahiravana has killed my form and has kidnapped me and imprisoned me here, but I do not want him. But I will tell the secret of Ahiravana only when my wish is fulfilled.

Hanuman ji asked Ahiravana’s wife Nagakanya Chitrasena, what do you want in return for telling the secret of Ahiravana’s death? You tell me your condition, I will definitely accept it.
Chitrasena said- Unfortunately, a demon like Ahiravan defeated me. This spoiled my life. I want to change my misfortune into good fortune. If you promise to marry me to Shri Ram, I will tell you the secret of killing Ahiravana.

Hanuman ji got lost in thought. Lord Shri Ram is devoted to only one wife. He is fighting with the demons to free his religious wife Goddess Sita. He will never accept marriage with anyone else. How can I commit?

Then he started thinking that if proper decision is not taken on time then the owner’s life is in danger. In the situation of confusion, restless Hanumanji found such a way that even the snake would die and the stick would not break.

Hanuman ji said- Your condition is acceptable, but we also have a condition. This marriage will take place only when the bed on which Lord Ram will sit with you remains safe and sound. If it breaks, I will call it a bad omen and go back on my promise.

If the bed does not break due to the sitting of the great Ahiravan, then how will it break due to the sitting of Shri Ram?

Thinking this, Chitrasena got ready. He told all the secrets of the end of all the demons including Ahiravan.

Chitrasena said- It is about the childhood of both the demons. Some mischievous demon friends of these two caught a Bhramari from somewhere. For entertainment, they were repeatedly teasing Bhramari with thorns.
Bhramari was not an ordinary Bhramari. She was also very elusive, but for some reason she was caught. Hearing the plight of Bhramari, Ahiravana and Mahiravana felt pity and freed her by fighting with their friends.

The husband of the elusive Bhramari also came after hearing the pain of his wife. Pleased with the liberation of his wife, the bumblebee had promised that we all the Bhramar caste together will repay you for your kindness.

These bumblebees mostly live near his bedroom. All these are in huge numbers. Whenever an attempt is made to kill both the demons and they are about to die, Bhramar puts a drop of nectar in their mouth.
Because of that nectar both these demons become alive even after death. Their many forms are due to the same nectar. Every time they are given life again, they take on new forms. So you have to kill these vortices first.

Hanuman ji returned after knowing the secret. Makardhwaj had engaged Ahiravana in the war. So Hanuman ji started eliminating the whirlpools. How long could they last in front of Hanuman ji?

When all the ghosts were gone and only one was left, he fell at the feet of Hanuman ji. He requested Hanuman ji to save his life. Hanuman ji got tired. He forgave him and assigned him a task.
Hanuman ji said – I donate my life to you but on the condition that you will leave from here immediately and enter the bed of Ahiravana’s wife and make it completely hollow as soon as possible.

Bhanwara immediately left to enter the bed of Chitrasena. Here Ahiravana and Mahiravana were very surprised by the disappearance of their miracle but they continued the illusory war.

Hanuman ji had destroyed the evil spirits, yet Ahiravana and Mahiravana could not be destroyed by Hanuman ji and Makardhwaj. Seeing this Hanuman ji became a little worried.
Then he remembered the words of Kamakshi Devi. The Goddess had told that Ahiravana’s Siddhi is that only when all the five lamps are extinguished together, he will be unable to assume new forms and he will be able to be killed.

Hanuman ji immediately assumed the five-faced form. Varaha face in the north, Narasimha face in the south, Garuda face in the west, Hayagriva face towards the sky and Hanuman face in the east.

After that Hanuman ji extinguished all the five lamps simultaneously with his five mouths. Now all the fears of his being born again and again and staying alive for a long time were gone. Both the demons were soon killed by Hanuman ji and Makardhwaj.

After this he took measures to remove the unconsciousness of Shri Ram and Lakshman ji. Both brothers regained consciousness. Chitrasena had also come there. Hanuman ji said- Lord! Now you are freed from the deceit and bondage of Ahiravana and Mahiravana.

But for this we had to take the help of this snake girl. Ahiravan had brought it by force. She wants to marry you. Please marry her and take her with you. This will also liberate him.

Shri Ram was astonished after listening to Hanuman ji. Before he could say anything, Hanuman ji himself said – Lord, you are the liberator. He has told the secret of killing Ahiravana. Without this we would not have been successful in killing him and saving you.
By your grace, this too should get salvation. But don’t worry. To the one who saved our lives, just do this, you just sit on this bed, I will get the rest done.

Hanuman ji was doing all the work so fast that both Shri Ram ji and Lakshman ji got worried. Before he could take any step, Hanuman ji caught hold of Lord Ram’s arm.

Hanuman ji passionately held the arm of Lord Shri Ram and made him sit on the huge decorated bed of Chitrasena. Before Shri Ram could understand anything, the hollow base of the bed creaked and broke.
The bed collapsed. Chitrasena also fell on the ground. Hanuman ji laughed and then said to Chitrasena – Now your condition has not been fulfilled, hence this marriage cannot take place. You are free and we arrange to send you to your world.

Chitrasena understood that she had been tricked. He said that he was cheated. It is very inappropriate for Maryada Purushottam’s servants to cheat anyone in front of him. I will curse Hanuman.

Chitrasena was about to curse Hanuman ji when Shri Ram’s hypnosis was broken. He understood this whole drama. He explained to Chitrasena – I have taken a vow to be bound by religion to one wife. That’s why Hanuman ji had to do this. Forgive them.
An angry Chitrasena was adamant on marrying him. Shri Ram said- When I will incarnate Shri Krishna in Dwapar, then I will make you my queen in the form of Satyabhama. With this she agreed.

Hanuman ji took Chitrasena to his father. Lord had given the boon of making Chitrasena his wife in the next life. In her desire to become the wife of Lord Vishnu, she burnt herself in the fire.

Shri Ram and Lakshman, along with Makardhwaj and Hanuman ji returned back to Suvel mountain in Lanka.
