“Why do we light Akhand Jyot during Navratri?”
Along with the worship of nine forms of Goddess Durga during Navratri i.e. nine days long, Ghatasthapana is done in many houses on this holy festival, while at many places there is a tradition of lighting Akhand Jyot. People who worship Shakti worship Goddess Durga by lighting a continuous flame. Akhand Jyoti means a light which is not divided. The Akhand Jyot should remain unbroken for the entire nine days i.e. it should keep burning. Ankhad Deep should be lit with proper recitation. Many rules are followed during Navratri.
Importance of Akhand Jyot
Akhand Jyot has great importance in Navratri. Its extinguishing is considered inauspicious. Wherever this eternal flame is lit, someone’s presence is necessary and it is not left unattended. In Akhand Jyot, the flame of the lamp should burn from left to right. This type of burning lamp is an indicator of financial attainment. The heat of the lamp should be felt four fingers around the lamp, this indicates good luck. The lamp whose flame is of the same color as gold, brings wealth and prosperity in your life and gives the message of progress in business.
Burning the Akhad Jyoti in one’s house continuously for a year brings all kinds of happiness. Such a lamp removes all types of problems like Vaastu defects, troubles, stress, poverty etc. in your every house. If your eternal flame extinguishes itself without any reason then it is considered inauspicious. The wick in the lamp should not be changed frequently. Lighting a lamp is also considered inauspicious. Doing this increases the disease and creates obstacles in auspicious activities. There is a provision of lighting the Akhand Jyoti in any ritual or meditation done by taking a resolution. The work of pouring ghee in the Akhand Jyoti or making any changes in it should be done only by the seeker or the guru of the seeker and should not be done by any other person.
Ankhad Jyot is also good for health
Actually, it is believed that by lighting Akhad Jyoti in front of Mother Goddess, the blessings of Mother always remain in that house. Lighting Ankhad Deep during Navratri is also good for health because the smell of ghee and camphor keeps the breathing and nervous system of a person good. Mother never gets angry with her devotees by lighting Akhand lamp during Navratri. During Navratri, due to Akhand Jyoti, the place of worship is never overshadowed by untoward things. By lighting a continuous lamp of ghee or oil during Navratri, negative thoughts never dominate the mind and the mind remains happy and calm. The smell of scented lamp in the house keeps the mind calm, due to which there are no fights in the house and the atmosphere remains calm.
