Why is Hanuman ji called Bajrangbali?
We all have heard many stories about Hanuman ji, the ultimate devotee of Lord Shri Ram. Worshipped as the god of Kaliyug, Hanuman destroys all the sufferings of his devotees and also fulfills all the wishes.
We all know Hanuman ji by many names, like Hanuman ji, Pawan Putra, Bajrangbali, Sankatmochan etc. But do you know how the name of Rudravatar Hanuman came to be Bajrangbali? Let us know how Hanuman ji got the name Bajrangbali. The legend is as follows…
According to mythological beliefs, Hanuman is the most powerful man with the mouth of a monkey in the Ramayana. Those whose body is like a vajra, wear a janeu on their shoulders, have a golden crown on their head and a mace in their hands. In Valmiki Ramayana, it is mentioned that among the seven people who are immortal on this earth, the name of Hanuman ji, the god of Kali Yuga, is also included.
The reason behind calling Mahabali Hanuman as Bajrangbali is as follows: –
Once Lord Hanuman saw Sita applying sindoor and asked her, “Why do you apply sindoor? “Hearing Hanuman ji’s words, Mata Sita said that she applies vermilion for the long life and good health of her husband Shri Ram. He told Hanuman ji that according to religion, a beautiful woman who applies sindoor in her demand, her husband’s life is long and health is good.
Hearing the words of Mother Sita, Bajrangbali realized that when Lord Shri Ram gets so much benefit by applying vermilion in the mang, then Lord Shri Ram will become immortal by applying vermilion all over the body. He also smeared vermilion all over his body while chanting “Jai Shri Ram.”
When Shri Ram sees Hanuman in this state, he asks him the reason. Then Hanuman ji tells all the things of Mother Sita to Lord Shri Ram. Knowing this, Shri Ram is very pleased with the devotion of Hanuman ji and blesses him that he will henceforth be known as Bajrangbali.
In Bajrangbali, Bajrang means saffron colour and Bali means powerful. Thus he is known as Bajrangbali.
