Share

According to Hindu religion, Shri Krishna is called the 8th incarnation of Lord Vishnu and till now there have been 23 incarnations of Lord Vishnu. Whenever the terror of demons has increased on this earth and unrighteousness has become prevalent, then Lord Vishnu has appeared in some incarnation or the other and saved this earth.
In the form of incarnation of Shri Krishna, he not only reduced the burden of sin from this earth but also made every human being aware of his real purpose in the form of Bhagwat Geeta.Lord Krishna, the embodiment of love, presented different aspects of life to the society with great ease. From liberating his dear friend Sudama to making Arjuna aware of his responsibilities in the war of Mahabharata, Shri Krishna was present everywhere at all times.

In his childhood, Lord Shri Krishna did many mischiefs and pranks with his friends Gopals and Gopis. While playing, the Gopis always teased Lord Shri Krishna because of his blue colour, due to which he got angry and complained to Mother Yashoda. But do you know how Lord Shri Krishna got blue color and why he is shown with a blue body in his statues and pictures?

According to mythology, the reason behind Shri Krishna attaining blue color is that before incarnating on the earth, Lord Shri Vishnu had placed two hairs in the womb of Devaki, out of which one hair was blue and the other was white. Both the children miraculously got established in the womb of Rohini due to the influence of Maya. Balram was born from white hair and Lord Krishna was born from blue hair.

According to the scriptures, there is also a belief behind the blue color of Shri Krishna that most of his creations by nature are of blue color like the ocean and the sky and emotions like patience, courage, dedication, sacrifice and coolness can be seen in all of them. Lord Shri Krishna He was also of calm and easy-going nature, endowed with all these qualities. In Brahma Samhita, Lord Shri Krishna has been described as shining with blue clouds.

According to other beliefs, the blue color of Lord Shri Krishna is due to the consumption of poison by the demon Putana sent by his maternal uncle Kansh. According to a story, one day Lord Shri Krishna was playing with a ball with his elder brother Balram and friends when the ball fell into the Yamuna river through Krishna. To take out that ball from the river, Krishna jumped into the Yamuna river.

Kaliya snake lived inside the Yamuna river and it was so poisonous that due to its influence the water of the entire Yamuna river had turned black. When Lord Shri Krishna was coming over the river Yamuna with the ball, Kaliya Nag saw him and attacked him. After defeating Kaliya Naga in the war, Lord Shri Krishna brought back the ball but due to the effect of Kaliya Naga’s poison, the color of his body turned blue.
