Sometimes we have a doubt in our mind that people have taken bath in Gangaji many times and have been consuming Ganga water for years, yet why their sorrows, worries, stress, fear and distress are not eradicated? Why is there no peace in life, has the power of Ganga to wash away sins ended or are we the ones making some mistake? Know the answer to this question through a devotional story.
The immense glory of Gangaji has been described in the Puranas. For example, Ganga is the one who takes a person to heaven by becoming a ladder, who helps one attain the status of God, gives salvation, takes away big sins and removes difficulties. When a person’s sorrows are eradicated forever, he gets ultimate peace and he starts experiencing liberation in life while he is still alive.

Why are sins not erased even after taking a bath in the Ganges?
Sometimes we have this doubt in our mind that even though we have taken bath in Gangaji many times and have been consuming Ganga water for years, still why our sorrows, worries, stress, fear, distress and heartache have not gone away? ?
Why is there no peace in our life?
The answer to this is very simple – man does not believe in God and His words. Whatever is written in the scriptures and Puranas are the words of God only. If we believe in the words of the Puranas literally instead of reasoning, then we will definitely get the results.
Keep in mind – ‘Gods, Vedas, Gurus, mantras, pilgrimages, medicines and saints – all these give results only through faith and belief, not through logic.
This can be understood well through a beautiful story.
Once Lord Shankar and Parvatiji reached Haridwar while roaming. Parvatiji asked Shankarji – ‘Thousands of people are bathing in the Ganga, yet why are their sins not being destroyed?’
Shankarji replied – ‘These people have not even taken a bath in the Ganges. They are just bathing in water. Now I will show you who actually took bath in the Ganga.
Lord Shankar made a pit on the way of Gangaji, filled it with water and stood in that pit in the guise of an ordinary human being. Shankarji was immersed in water up to his shoulders. He told Parvatiji that you should request the people who come after taking bath in Ganga that – ‘Take my husband out of this pit but the condition is that if you have not committed any sin in your life then only try to take him out, otherwise do not touch him. Only you will be destroyed.’
Many days have passed . Thousands of people passed that way after taking a bath in the Ganges, but on hearing the condition, they did not dare to touch Shankarji and went away saying that we have not committed any sin in this birth but who knows about the previous births, I don’t know if we have committed any sin. ?
One day a person came and said to Parvatiji – ‘I will take your husband out of this pit.’
Parvatiji asked-‘Have you never committed any sin?’
The man replied – ‘I have committed many sins but just now I have taken a bath in Ganga, hence all my sins have been destroyed and I have become sinless.’
As soon as that person extended his hand to take Lord Shankar out of the pit, Lord Shankar automatically came out of the pit.
Lord Shankar said to Parvatiji – ‘He has actually taken bath in Ganga because he believes that bathing in Ganga destroys all sins.’
This is how you can get the full benefits of bathing in Ganga.
To receive the blessings of Gangaji, one should have unwavering faith in her, hence instead of asking for worldly things from her, one should always ask, ‘Please give me your unwavering faith by your grace.’
While taking a dip in Ganga, one should have the same feeling that ‘we are taking a dip in the nectar-like Brahma fluid emanating from the lotus feet of Lord Narayana. Whatever little or many sins I have committed in different births, they will definitely be destroyed by taking a bath in Gangaji. Please the Tripathagamani Ganga please take away my sins.
It is said in the scriptures that ‘one should worship a deity only by becoming a deity.’ It is even written in the scriptures that while going to bathe in Ganga, one should give up the demonic tendencies like lying, fighting, backbiting, anger, greed, covetousness etc. and adopt divine qualities like charity, kindness, compassion, truth, charity etc. Should be followed in life, only then bathing in Ganga becomes successful.
Many people go to take bath in the Ganges but do not take bath in the Ganges as per the method prescribed in the scriptures. People who do things like playing cards, smoking cigarettes etc. in pilgrimage places do not get the virtuous results of bathing in Ganga.
Gangaji, which keeps washing away the sins of the people, is now waiting for such virtuous souls who come to Ganga not to wash away their sins but to dedicate their virtues.
