Wokha Shiv Mandir Nagaland
The oldest Shiv Temple of Nagaland that is in existence since over a hundred years, as mentioned by the local inhabitants. It is inside the Assam Rifles Camp, but access to outside devotees is available through the temple gate along the eastern periphery. Few smaller temples are also made along the sides of the main temple.
Must visit place in Wokha. One of most important historical holy places of Worship for all Hindus. The temple is presently maintained and looked after by Assam Rifles.
It’s history dates back to year 1942 when a mysterious spherical shaped Shivlingam emerging from ground was spotted by one of the mason who hailed from Bihar .He was involved in working in a nearby construction site .
Also a water spring was spotted in vicinity which was later modified to a well. The water level in the well is constant throughout since it’s inception which is again a mystery as during dry season all the water bodies of neighbourhood end up drying. The water is considered to be very sacred hence it’s taken by devotees in container to their home for religious purposes.
A number of attempts have been made by several individuals for relocation of Shivlingam but it has mysteriously disappeared from their possession and returned to it’s original location.
Also you can see hundreds of Pigeons in Temple Complex staying in Pigeon Shelters .They are fed daily from the Charity feed donated by locals.
