Omkareshwar is a Hindu temple. It is located in Khandwa district of Madhya Pradesh. It is situated on an island called Mandhata or Shivpuri in the middle of Narmada river. It is one of the twelve Jyotirlingas of Lord Shiva, centuries ago the Bhil tribe settled at this place and now this place is famous for its grandeur and history. It is situated about (14 km) away from Moratakka village. This island is made in the shape of the Hindu sacred symbol Om. Two temples are located here.

There are 68 pilgrimages in it. 33 crore deities reside here along with their families and there are 108 impressive Shivlingas including 2 light-like Lingas. Out of the famous 12 Jyotirlingas of the country, 2 Jyotirlingas are situated in Madhya Pradesh. One is present in Ujjain in the form of Mahakal and the other in Omkareshwar in the form of Omkareshwar-Mamleshwar.

Here, on behalf of Goddess Ahilyabai Holkar, 18 thousand Shivlingas made of clay are prepared every day and after worshiping them, they are immersed in the Narmada. The original name of Omkareshwar city is ‘Mandhata’.
Story
King Mandhata pleased Lord Shiva by doing severe penance on this mountain on the banks of Narmada and when Lord Shiva appeared, he asked for a boon to reside here. Since then the said famous pilgrimage city started being called as Omkar-Mandhata. Omkareshwar is the best pilgrimage place in the Narmada region. It is believed in the scriptures that even if a pilgrim does all the pilgrimages in the country, unless he comes to Omkareshwar and brings water from the pilgrimages he has done and does not offer it here, all his pilgrimages are considered incomplete. Along with Omkareshwar Tirtha, Narmadaji also has special significance. According to the scriptures, the results of bathing in Jamunaji for 15 days and bathing in Gangaji for 7 days are given by just seeing Narmadaji.

History of Kuber Bhandari Temple
Shiva devotee Kuber had performed penance in this temple and established Shivalinga. Whom Shiva had made the lord of the gods. For the bath of Kubera, Lord Shiva had created the Kaveri river from the hair of his matted hair. This river flows from the side of the Kuber temple and joins the Narmadaji, which has been seen by the devotees who go for the short parikrama as a direct proof, the same Kaveri circles the Omkar mountain and meets the Narmadaji back at the confluence, this is also known as the Narmada Kaveri. It is called confluence.
