There is a unique story of naming of an ancient Shiv temple situated on Jaipur-Agra road. The name of this temple is Nainath Mahadev Temple.

There is a unique story of the naming of an ancient Shiv temple located on Agra Road, about 70 kilometers from Jaipur, the capital of Rajasthan. The name of this temple is Nainath Mahadev Temple. The temple is said to be about 350 years old. It is said about the Shivalinga situated in the temple that it is self-manifested. There is a story prevalent in the area regarding the naming of this temple. Harinarayan associated with the temple told that hundreds of years ago there was a king in Banskhoh or Banskho. He had three queens. These three did not have any children after marriage. Then Balvanath Baba, who was living in the Shiva temple situated in the forest nearby, advised the queens to worship in the Shiva temple. The youngest of the three queens followed this advice. Chhoti Rani took a vow to worship in this ancient Shiva temple situated in a deserted forest every month on the Chaturdashi before Amavasya. She would go to the temple with the royal carriage and return after offering prayers. People used to gather to see this royal ride. The queen’s wish was fulfilled and she soon gave birth to a child. Since the queen was newly married. That means he was married some time ago. Therefore, it was said in the area that Nai had been blessed by Nath i.e. Balvanath. Later this place became famous by the name of Nai Ka Nath or Nainath. There is a Dhuna of Balvanath Baba near Shiv temple. There his feet are worshiped and people make wishes. A fair is organized here every month on Chaturdarshi before Amavasya.

Shivalinga is self-manifested

There is a temple of Lord Shiva in Nainath. It is said about this Shivalinga that hundreds of years ago the name of this area was Kohilapura and there was a king there. The king was a devotee of Shiva. He did not take food without taking bath and worshiping Lord Shiva. Once the enemies captured the king and imprisoned him in a chamber near a stepwell. During this period, because he did not worship Lord Shiva, he did not eat anything for seven days.On the seventh day, water from the stepwell spilled out and fell on the king. The king, half unconscious due to hunger and thirst, regained consciousness and when he shook his head he saw that there was Shivalinga in front of him. At the same time, his army arrives there and frees him. After many years, a Baba named Balvanath started living here by building a hut. He was a perfect man.
Fairs are organized in the temple of Nai Nath twice a year on Shivratri and in Shravan. Lakhs of devotees come to both these fairs. Kavad Yatras are famous here in the month of Shravan.
