According to the story, at the time of churning of the ocean, Vasuki was used as a snake’s juice, due to which his body got irritated due to rubbing with Sumeru Parbat. The burning sensation did not get cured after living on Mandarachal Parbat, but on the advice of Lord Vishnu. Vasuki came to Prayag and drank the water of Saraswati and rested for a few days, then this burning sensation subsided.According to the second story, when Ganga descended from the sky to the earth, due to the strong flow, its waters reached the underworld and became the place of Bhogatirtha due to the presence of pearls on the hood of Nagavasuki. On Nagavasuki’s arrival at Prayag, this pilgrimage came here. At present Bhogtirtha Manal Jala is located on the western side of the temple.
