When the declared enemy of the British government could not find shelter anywhere else in India, he came to Jaipur.
The Maharaja gave him shelter at his place and in the witness of Govinddevji, the Maharaja took an oath that he would not hand over the throne of Awadhanwab to Wajid Ali Shah, but under the pressure of the British and the Prime Minister of Jaipur State, Daulat Ram, he would hand it over to the Awadh Nawab on the basis of written agreement and conditions. It was handed over to the British because Maharaja Pratap Singh falsified the oath taken by Shri Govinddevji, hence as per the saying, Govinddevji stopped giving personal darshan to the Maharaja.
The Maharaja became very distressed by this and gave up the water. On this, Shri Govinddevji appeared in the king’s dream that a new temple of Shri Brijnidhi should be established in the palaces. This idol will keep giving you darshan in dreams, accordingly this temple was established. Maharaja Sawai Pratap Singh used to visit Lord Brijnidhi every day during the Aarti of Rajbhog and used to compose a verse every day and recite it to Shriji and used to eat food only after receiving the Prasad of Rajbhog.
