Alopi Devi/Alop Shankari Devi Shakti Peeth Mandir Allahabad
This is such a special temple, where no idol has been kept. It is named after Goddess Alopshankari. There is a platform in the middle of the temple courtyard where there is a pond. There is a special swing or cradle above it, which is covered with a red cloth. According to legend, the wrist of Mother Sati had fallen at this place.
This is the famous Shakti Peetha and the water of this pond is considered to have miraculous powers.
In this unique temple of faith, devotees do not worship the idol but only the swing or the cradle. There is also a belief behind the naming of Alopi. It is believed that here the claw of Shivpriya Sati’s right hand fell and became invisible or vanished, hence this Shakti Peeth was named Alop Shankari.
It is believed that every wish of the devotees who make a wish by tying Raksha Sutra on their wrist is fulfilled and as long as the thread is tied on their hand, Alopi Devi protects them. Three temples in Prayag (Allahabad) are considered to be Shaktipeeths by different beliefs and all three temples belong to ‘Lalita’, the power of Prayag Shaktipeeth. The first temple is Akshayavat, which is located inside the fort. The second temple of Lalita Devi is located near Meerapur and the third temple is of Alopi Mata.
