Maa Raj Rajeshwari Devi Temple, Muzaffarpur
The famous Raj Rajeshwari Devi Temple located in Umashankar Prasad Lane of the city is counted among the major Shaktipeeths of North Bihar. There is a constant flow of devotees in this temple throughout the year. There is hardly any businessman in the city who opens his shop without visiting him. It is believed that Mata Shodashi established in this temple fulfills the wishes of every person. On the occasion of Navratri, a crowd of lakhs of people gather in this temple. During Navratri, there is a grand aarti of Mata in the morning and evening, which devotees throng to see. There is no place to even step here till Navratri. Every year the crowd of devotees is increasing here.
The temple was established by local religious devotee Umashankar Prasad alias Bacha Babu. Before the construction of the temple, he had only five daughters and was unable to have a son. Then he was told that Mata Shodasi fulfills the wishes of the devotees, due to which he got inspiration to build the temple of Mata. For this he contacted Pandit Nirsan Mishra. According to his instructions, the Devi Temple was established on 28 June 1941, on the date of Ashadh Shukla Paksha Tritiya. After a few months, Bacha Babu was blessed with a son, Ratna. Since then, people’s faith in the temple increased further. The head Pandit of the temple, Dr. Dharmendra Tiwari told that this temple is the personal property of Bacha Babu’s son Amitabh Mehrotra.
People’s faith in this temple started increasing because people’s wishes are fulfilled here. Doctor Tiwari tells that the idol of Mata Shodasi is installed in the temple which fulfills the wishes of the devotees. There is a story about this form of Mother Goddess that once Parvati ji asked Shiva the solution to get relief from sorrows, then Shiva told Bhagwati about Shodasi Shri Vidya Sadhana. It is said that Maharishi Durvasha had also worshiped Shri Shodashi Mata. The wishes of the devotees are also fulfilled in the Devi temple of the city. Every day a crowd of local people and people from other districts and states gather to see the gold statue of Mata Shodashi installed in the temple.
Raj Rajeshwari Devi Temple situated on Ramana Road, established on 28 June 1941, is an important center of devotees. There is a continuous flow of devotees here throughout the year. Thousands of devotees gather during Chaitra and Shardiya Navratri. In the temple, there is a proven goddess with the idol of Shodashi Maheshwari Shakti. It is ranked fourth among the ten Mahavidyas mentioned in Agama Shastra. This goddess with a mantra of sixteen letters has sixteen arms and two eyes. The goddess is seated on the lotus seat emanating from the navel of Mahadev lying in a calm posture. At the bottom, Brahma, Vishnu, Rudra and Ishwar are situated in the order from north to south and on top of them Mahadev is lying, from whose navel a lotus flower has emerged as a welcome sign on which Mother Bhagwati is seated.
