Adhyatmic Stories

The human body is a temple.

Share

God created eighty-four lakh species through his illusion but when he was not satisfied, he created the human body. God was very pleased by creating the human body because man is equipped with such intelligence that he can have an encounter with God.

Our knowledgeable readers know that the human body is a temple. God created the human body from the five elements (sky, air, fire, land and water) and filled it with hunger and thirst.

Sky has been compared with the subtle body, land with bones, flesh and fire with body heat.

The gods asked God to show us a place where we could live and eat our food. On the request of the gods, cows and horses came out of the water but the gods rejected them saying that they were not fit for us to live.

When the human body appeared all the gods were pleased.

Then God said – Enter your habitable places.

Then the sun becomes light in the eyes, the air becomes life in the chest and nostrils,

Fire becomes speech in the mouth and gastric fire in the stomach, Direction in the ears by becoming the sense organ (hearing), Medicines and plants become hair in the skin, The moon became the mind and entered the heart, death (anus) entered the navel and the water god became semen and entered the male organ.

Thirty-three gods come in partial form and reside in the human body.

The following story from the Upanishad confirms that the human body is a temple:

Our body is the temple of God. This is the temple in which when all the doors outside are closed and the inner door of devotion opens, then God appears here in the form of light and man gets to see God.

Let us see which gods reside in the human body and what are their functions:

As many gods as there are in the world are present in the human body in an “unmanifested” form, but the presiding deities of the ten senses (five sense organs and five action senses) and the four antakarana (inner senses – intellect, ego, mind and chitta) are manifest. Are in form. If all these senses are totaled then it becomes 14.

Let us get brief information about these gods, so briefly that even a common man can understand. An attempt has been made to simplify all the difficult words but those which have not been simplified are only because more difficulty was observed after simplification.

1. God of eyes (eyes) – Lord Surya resides in the eyes and is their presiding deity; That is why it is possible to see someone’s form through the eyes. In eye disorders, meditation of Chakshushopanishad, Suryopanishad and worship of Sun is beneficial.

2. God of the sense of smell (Nasika): The presiding deity of Nasika is Ashwinikumar. These provide knowledge of smell.

3. Deity of Srotendriya (ear) – The presiding deity of Srotendriya (ear) is Dik Devta (directions). Words are heard through them.

4. God of the tongue – God Varun resides in the tongue, it gives knowledge of taste.

5. God of skin (skin): The presiding deity of skin is Vayu (vayu). Due to this the living being experiences touch.

6. God of Hastendriya (hands) – Most of the human actions are performed by hands only. Indradev resides in his hands.

7. God of the feet – The god of the feet is Upendra (Vaman, Shri Vishnu). Vishnu resides at his feet.

8. God of speech – There are two senses in the tongue, one is Rasna which gives knowledge of taste and the other is speech which is used to pronounce all the words. Saraswati resides in speech and she is its presiding deity.

9. God of Upastha (Medu) – The God of this Guhyendriya is Prajapati. This leads to creation of people (procreation of children).

10. God of Anus: Mitra, the God of Death, resides in this sense organ. It purifies the body by eliminating waste.

11. God of intellect: Brahma is the god of intellect. Gayatri Mantra prays for good wisdom, that is why it is called ‘Brahma-Gayatri’. As the intellect becomes pure, subtle knowledge begins to develop, which can also lead to the realization of God.

12. God of ego – Rudra is the presiding deity of ego. Ego gives the sense of ‘I’.

13. God of the mind – The presiding deity of the mind is the Moon. It is the mind that gives birth to resolution and choice in a human being. Controlling the mind leads to attaining God and when the mind is defeated, man sinks into despair.

14. God of mind – Nature-power, Chichchatti is the god of mind. Mind itself is consciousness or consciousness. Whatever vibrations (movement, consciousness) happen in the body, all happen through the same mind.

God created the universe and all the gods came and settled in it, but even then consciousness did not come in the universe and that great man did not arise. When the presiding deity of the mind entered the mind, the great man stood up at that very moment. Thus the Lord resides in this body along with the deities who conduct all activities in the world.

Now it is the duty of man to keep this temple built by God clean. For this the following work should be done:

1. Stay away from negative thoughts and mental disorders – lust, anger, greed, attachment, jealousy, ego.

2. Remove internal dirt from the body by sweating as much as possible by doing yoga, exercise and Surya Namaskar.

3. Consume as much pure air as possible by doing Anulom-Vilom and subtle activities.

4. Keep the stomach clean by eating pure Satvik food at the right time and in the right quantity.

While reading the description given below, you might be thinking that the information given above is being repeated. Yes, some facts are definitely being repeated but it will be beneficial to study them.

We know that the human body is a temple. This temple has eight chakras and nine gates. It is said in Arthavaveda-

“Ashtachakra Navdwara Devanam Puryodhya, Tasya Hiranyah Koshah Swargo Jyotishavrutah”

Which means that Ayodhya with eight chakras and nine gates is the city of Gods, it has a treasury of light which is full of joy and light, that is, it is the city of Gods called Ayodhya with eight chakras and nine gates.

According to science, the birth of a human being becomes possible due to the combination of parents.

But are humans created only by chance? Not at all! For this, Gods and Goddesses also help. 33 crore Gods and Goddesses like Sun, Earth, Air, Water, Sky, Moon etc. are very essential for our life.

In the womb of our mother, these Gods, with each and every part of themselves, help in giving birth to the child and nurturing it.

Just imagine that if Vayudev could not reach the mother’s womb then would life be possible in the womb. The same is true of water, the same applies to gods like fire etc. To understand all these gods one by one, one should have a background in science and spirituality. Agnidev should never be taken to mean that there is a stove or furnace installed in the mother’s womb and she is cooking food for the child. Knowledge of basic science tells us that digestion of food, formation of blood and generation of energy is a type of combustion/burning/ignition process.

It is written in the 5th Kanda of Atharvaveda:

The sun is my eyes, the air is my life, the space is my soul and the earth is my body. In this way, the sun of the divine world, the air of the space world and the substances of the earth world respectively, my eyes and life have come and reside in the physical body and the hands which are the subtle parts of the three worlds, have incarnated in our body. That is why a wise man considers the human body as Brahma because all the gods live in it just like cows live in a cowshed. 33 gods reside in the mother’s womb with their respective subtle parts, but this womb becomes stable (solid) only when God incarnates the soul in the womb from his part. At that time all the gods praise the God in the womb and protect and increase it. All the gods pray – O living being! You should do good to other living beings along with yourself, but due to the hardships at the time of birth, man forgets these things.

The mantra of Veda reminds us that I am immortal or possessing indomitable power. Our body is such a divine and beautiful human body. That is why the immortal message of the sages echoes in the Upanishads: Aham Brahmasmi Tatvamasi. This is how all living beings originate. Therefore, the Gods declare that every living being in the universe is a part of the Supreme Soul, hence we all should look at each other from this Godly perspective. After reading this sentence, today’s humans feel disgusted that what our Vedas, Puranas, Upanishads, Gods teach, how they establish the universe with so much hard work, but humans

Instead of becoming a great man and a god, no one leaves any stone unturned to become a monster. Perhaps that human being does not know that the rules of creation and the account of every action of every living being are being written in the court of the Creator. Karma always finds its doer and always gets punishment or reward. The theory of karma is so strong that not even the gods or Gods could escape from it.
