Muktagiri proven area is situated in Bhaisadehi tehsil of Betul district of Madhya Pradesh. This area is situated on a hill and there are 52 temples on the hill and 2 temples on the foothills of the hill. Most of the temples in the area were built in the 16th century or later. A total of 250 stairs are used to reach the hills of the area and about 600 stairs are used for the entire journey.There is a waterfall falling from a height of 250 feet in the area. A continuous stream keeps falling from this waterfall from July to January. This area is a naturally beautiful place.
The tenth Tirthankar Lord Shitalnath ji had come to Muktagiri to worship him. It is also believed that when Lord Shitalnath ji came here to worship, it rained pearls and that is why this area was named Muktagiri. This area is a proven area because three and a half crore sages have attained Nirvana from this area.
In the temple of Lord Parshvanath in the area, an ancient statue of Lord Parshvanath decorated with Saptafan is present. According to popular belief, it rains saffron in this area on every Ashtami, Chaudas and Purnima.
Temple number 10 in the area is a very ancient temple carved in the womb of the hill, which is famous by the name of Medhagiri, in which the idol of Lord Shantinath is present.
According to popular belief, in ancient times, a ram had fallen in front of Muniraj who was meditating in the field. After meditating, Muniraj recited Namokar mantra in the ear of this dying ram. Due to which after his death he became Ram God.
