Why is Vishnu called Narayan and Hari?
Lord Vishnu is worshiped the most in Hindu religion. Some worship him as Vishnu and some worship him as Krishna or Ram. To protect religion, Lord Vishnu has freed this earth from sin by taking many incarnations from time to time. It is told in the Bhavishya Purana written by Ved Vyas ji that even in Kaliyuga, Vishnu will take Kalki incarnation again.
“Vishnu’s Hari and Narayan names”
Narad Muni, the biggest devotee of Lord Vishnu, calls him Narayan. Apart from this, he has also been called by all these names like Anantanarayan, Satya Narayan, Lakshminarayan, Sheshnarayan. But the basic thing is that Narayan has been associated with all these names.
That’s why Narayan is called Vishnu
According to the mythology, the water god Varuna was born from the feet of Lord Vishnu and the river Ganga also emerged from the feet of Vishnu, which we also call Vishnupadodaki.
“Lord Vishnu resides in water” Another name of water is Neer. Lord Vishnu’s residence (Ayan) is also said to be in the ocean (Nar). That is why his name was Narayan on the basis of water. Hence Narayan means god living in water.
How did Vishnu get the name Hari :-
The word Hari means one who takes away the mind. It is said in the scriptures that Hari Harati Papani means Vishnu destroys sins. His most favorite date is Ekadashi which has utmost importance in Hindu religion. By observing fast on this day, a person’s sins of many births are destroyed and he attains every happiness.
