Birth of Mother Sita – Mother Sita has also been addressed as Janaki in Ramayana. Goddess Sita was the daughter of King Janaka of Mithila, hence she is also called Janaki.
Mother Sita is considered an incarnation of Lakshmi, who was married to Lord Shri Ram, son of King Dasaratha of Ayodhya and Lord Vishnu’s incarnation himself. After marriage, Mother Sita had to face 14 years of exile with Lord Rama.
However, there are many mythological stories about the birth of Mata Sita. According to which it is said that Goddess Sita was the adopted daughter of King Janak, while somewhere it is also mentioned that Mother Sita Lankapati was the daughter of Ravana.
In such a situation, the question arises as to how Mother Sita was born. So let us tell you through this article, two mythological stories related to the birth of Mother Sita.
Mother Sita’s birth and first legend related to it
According to the Valmiki Ramayana, once the fierce drought in Mithila was very upset, then to get rid of this problem, a sage suggested him to perform a yajna and run a plow on the earth.
On the suggestion of that sage, King Janak performed the yajna and after that King Janak started plowing the earth. Then he found a beautiful girl wrapped in soil in the gold’s doll from the earth.
King Janak had no children, so taking that girl in her hands, she felt her father love. King Janak named the girl Sita and adopted her as her daughter.
Mata Sita’s birth and other legend related to it
Another story related to the birth of Mother Sita is prevalent according to which Mata Sita was said to be the daughter of Lankapati Ravana and Mandodari.
According to this story, Sita ji was a rebirth of a woman named Vedavati. Vedavati was the supreme devotee of Vishnu and she wanted to get her as her husband. Therefore, Vedavati did harsh penance to please Lord Vishnu.
It is said that one day Ravana was leaving from there where Vedavati was doing penance and Ravana was fascinated by seeing the beauty of Vedavati. Ravana asked Vedavati to walk with her but Vedavati refused to go along. Ravana got angry after Vedavati refused and wanted to misbehave with Vedavati. On touching Ravana, Vedavati consumed herself and cursed Ravana that she would be born as the daughter of Ravana and will cause her death.
After some time Mandodari gave birth to a girl. But frightened by the curse of Vedavati, Ravana threw that girl in the ocean as soon as he was born. After which Varuni, the goddess of the ocean, handed over that girl to the earth, the goddess of the earth and the earth handed over that girl to King Janak and Mother Sunaina.
After which King Janaka raised Sita and got her married with Lord Shri Ram. Then during exile, Ravana kidnapped Sita, due to which Shri Ram killed Ravana and thus Sita became the cause of Ravana’s slaughter.
However, the birth of Goddess Sita from which both these mythological stories are attached, but which of these stories is true and which is not, only Lord Rama knows its secret, whatever the stories are, but Mata Sita ji is well worshiped everywhere.
