The Kalki Temple in Jaipur,Rajasthan

Share

This temple belongs to a God who has not yet been incarnated.

In Jaipur, the capital of Rajasthan, there is a temple of a God who has not yet been incarnated. The equestrian statue of the future 10th incarnation of Lord Vishnu is installed in this temple. It is said that the pit on the left leg of this horse is filling itself and when it fills, Lord Kalki will appear. In the Puranas and religious texts, Kalki is considered the 10th incarnation of Lord Vishnu.

This temple is located in Sirhadyodhi market in Jaipur and was built by the founder of Jaipur, Raja Sawai Jai Singh in 1739 after settling Jaipur. This temple is built in Dakshinayan Shikhar style. It is believed that this is the first such temple in the world which has been built by imagining a God who has not yet appeared on earth. Built after other temples of Kalki.

Based on descriptions found in the Puranas, this temple houses a beautiful marble statue of Lord Vishnu’s tenth avatar, Kalki; a marble horse stands in front of the statue. Sawai Jai Singh himself used to visit this temple to perform the Aarti. Until a few years ago, a procession of Kalki used to be taken out once a year.
According to the scriptures, this incarnation is destined to occur on the *Shashthi Tithi* (sixth day) of the bright fortnight of the month of Shravan; therefore, this day is celebrated as Kalki Jayanti. South Indian astrologers have already predicted the planetary alignment at the time of the Kalki Avatar’s birth: the Moon will be in the Dhanishtha Nakshatra and the Aquarius (Kumbha) zodiac sign, while the Sun will be transiting through the Swati Nakshatra in the Libra (Tula) zodiac sign. Lord Kalki will incarnate when Jupiter is positioned in its own sign, Sagittarius, and Saturn is in its sign of exaltation, Libra. His incarnation will mark the end of the Kali Yuga.
