10 interesting things about Lord Vishwakarma

Vishwakarma was a great sage and Brahmagyani. He is mentioned in the Rigveda. It is said that he was the one who built the houses, cities, weapons etc. of the gods. He was a great craftsman.
Let us know 10 interesting things about him. 25 February 2021 i.e. Magh Shukla Trayodashi is the birth anniversary of Lord Vishwakarma.
1. Maharishi Vishwakarma, who in ancient times civilized the human beings for the welfare of the people and invented many useful things in the world like aeroplanes, ships, wells, stepwells, agricultural machines, weapons, buildings, jewellery, statues, food vessels, chariots etc. Being the first Shilpacharya, he was called Acharya of Acharyas.
2. In ancient times, Vishwakarma built cities like 1. Indrapuri, 2. Lankapuri, 3. Yampuri, 4. Varunpuri, 5. Kuberpuri, 6. Pandavapuri, 7. Sudamapuri, 8. Dwarika, 9. Shivmandalpuri, 10. Hastinapur. Just did it. It is said that he was the one who created things like Karna’s Kundal, Vishnu’s Sudarshan Chakra, Pushpak Viman, Lord Shankar’s Trishul, Yamraj’s Kaaldand etc. It was he who created divine weapons from the bones of sage Dadhichi.
3. Many forms of Lord Vishwakarma are mentioned in the Puranas – two-armed, four-armed and ten-armed Vishwakarma. Apart from this, Vishwakarma has one face, four faces and five faces.
4. Description of five incarnations of Vishwakarma is found in the Puranas – 1. Virat Vishwakarma – Creator of the universe, 2. Dharmavanshi Vishwakarma – creator of great craftsmanship and son of Prabhat, 3. Angiravanshi Vishwakarma – creator of primitive science Vasu, son of 4. Sudhanva Vishwakarma. – Great Shilpacharya, grandson of Vigyan Jangatha Atavi Rishi and 5. Bhringuvanshi Vishwakarma – Excellent Shilpa Vigyanacharya (grandson of Shukracharya).
5. Brahma’s son was Dharma and Dharma’s son was Vastudev. Vastu was the seventh son born to a wife named Dharma Vaastha, who was the originator of Shilpashastra. Vishwakarma was born from the same Vaastudev’s wife named Angirasi. According to Skanda Purana, Dharma Rishi’s eighth son Prabhas was married to Bhuvana Brahmavadini, sister of Dev Guru Brihaspati. Lord Vishwakarma was born from her womb. This is also clearly mentioned in Mahabharata Adiparva Chapter 16 Verse 27 and 28.It is mentioned in A.56 of Varaha Purana that for the benefit of all people, Lord Brahma, after thinking wisely, created Vishwakarma on earth.
6. The great clan born from the sons of Vishwakarma is a sub-class of Brahmins. King Priyavrat had married Vishwakarma’s daughter Bahirshmati from whom 10 sons like Agnidhra, Yajnyabahu, Medhatithi etc. were born. From Priyavrat’s second wife, three sons, Uttam, Tamas and Raivat, were born, who became the rulers of the Manvantras named after them. Among the 10 sons of Maharaja Priyavrat, Kavi, Mahavir and Sawan were three celibate celibates and had adopted the religion of Sannyasa.
7. Five great sons of Vishwakarma: Vishwakarma had five sons named Manu, May, Tvashta, Shilpi and Daivagya. All five of them were proficient in different styles of architecture. Manu had expertise in iron, May in wood, Tvashta in bronze and copper, Shilpi in brick and Daivagya in gold and silver.
8. Vishwakarma’s birth anniversary falls on the day of Kanya Sankranti (around 17th September) whereas according to the opinion of Vishwakarma Samaj, his birth anniversary falls on Trayodashi of Magh Shukla Paksha.

9. By reading Vayu Purana Chapter 4, it is proved that Vishwakarma is actually a descendant of Bhrigu Rishi clan.

10. In India, people of Vishwakarma community are considered to be Jangid Brahmins. The five Gotra originator sages named Sanag, Sanatan, Ahman, Pratna and Suparna gave birth to 25 children each, due to which the vast Vishwakarma society expanded.
