108 Shri Koka Parshvanath Jain Temple, Patan, Gujarat This Jain pilgrimage site is very important not only from religious but also from historical and cultural point of view. The history of this temple is believed to be around 900 to 1000 years old, and it is a wonderful example of ancient Jain architecture. The city of Patan itself was the capital of Gujarat from the 8th to the 13th century, where the Chalukya (Solanki) dynasty ruled. Patan became a prosperous center of Jainism during this period, and many grand Jain temples were built – among which the Koka Parshvanath Temple is particularly noteworthy.

This temple is associated with a devotee Koka Shah, after whom this pilgrimage is called “Koka Parshvanath”. Koka Shah was a wealthy businessman and is considered to be an ardent devotee of Lord Parshvanath. It is believed that Lord Parshvanath indicated him in a dream to appear at this place, after which this temple was established. The main idol is considered to be very ancient and miraculous, which devotees call “Jagrut Pratima” – that is, an idol that has a special effect of spiritual energy.

The temple has 108 idols of Lord Parshvanath installed in a single complex in a special order and style, which is rare in India. This arrangement not only helps devotees in devotion and meditation, but it also reflects the widespread worship of Lord Parshvanath in Jainism. Also, many Upashrayas (dharmashalas), inscriptions, and Jain texts are preserved in the temple complex.

From a religious point of view, this pilgrimage is considered to be a place that strengthens the feeling of self-purification, penance, meditation and salvation. Many religious rituals, sadhumargi fasts, Pratishtha Mahotsav and Swadhyaya sessions are organized here throughout the year. Thousands of Jain devotees gather here, especially during Chaturmas and Parvadheeraaj “Paryushan”.
