Baba Baleshwar Nath Ballia

The temple of Baba Baleshwar Nath established in the central area of ​​the city is ancient. There is a crowd of devotees here all the time. There is maximum crowd of devotees here in the month of Sawan. After taking bath in river Ganga, devotees do darshan, worship and perform Jalabhishek of Baba. Devotees from nearby areas as well as from other provinces including Bihar come here for Rudrabhishek etc.

History of the temple: The temple of Baba Baleshwar Nath was established hundreds of years ago by King Bali in Diara area. Due to erosion of Ganga the location of the temple has been changing. The temple was established at the present location after the third transformation. This construction was done with the initiative of the famous businessmen of that time, Lakshu Bhagat and Billar Bhagat. It is said that Lakshu and Billar were brothers and their throne ruled over 52 districts. The name of Ballia, the city of King Bali, was earlier Baliag which was considered the capital of Bali. It is believed that King Bali was a great devotee of Shiva. It was he who had Rishi Valmiki make a Shivling made of sand and install it as per the rituals. When the consecration was done, Shivalinga became of stone. This first temple merged into the river but people took out the Shivalinga. The second time the city was settled, it was established by a British magistrate and a Hindu Brahmin officer. Then when the flood came, seeing the possibility of destruction of the temple, the then priest Shivdeni Bharti and others placed it on a bullock cart and brought it to the present Ballia city and established it, which is today known as Baleshwar temple.

Baleshwar Nath Temple is the center of unwavering faith and belief of the devotees. At that time, wealthy businessmen Lakshu and Billar got it constructed in the middle of the city. Shivalinga was established here by the great saint of that time, Mouni Baba. It is believed that Mouni Baba’s loincloth around his waist used to dry in the sky. This temple is so huge that rituals and auspicious events etc. are held here throughout the year.
