History
When Maharaja Madan Varman arrived, he noticed a Shiva Linga at the spot. Then he built the Kunteshvar temple at that place. According to the Niti Shastra, Banpur was the capital of Banasura, the king of demons and a great devotee of Shiva Mahadeva, his daughter Usha Devi was also a devotee of Mahadeva’s Shiva Linga.
