A childhood mistake and the name ‘Hanuman’ was born!

Share

As a child, Maruti mistook the Sun God for a red fruit and jumped to eat it. To protect the Sun God, Indra, the king of the gods, struck him with his thunderbolt, shattering Maruti’s chin (Hanu), and he fell unconscious to the earth.
Seeing his son’s condition, the wind god, the wind god, sucked the life-giving air from the world, causing chaos throughout the universe. Then the Supreme Lord Brahma arrived and consoled the wind god and revived the young Maruti. Because of the injury on his chin, Brahma gave him a new name—”Hanuman.”
Seeing Hanuman’s humility and brilliance, the eight major gods present there granted him special and infallible boons, making him invincible:

1. The boon of Lord Indra:
Indra adorned Hanuman with a garland of divine lotuses and granted him the boon that even his thunderbolt would be invulnerable to him. Consequently, Hanuman’s body became as powerful as a thunderbolt, and he was known as “Vajrang” (Bajrangbali).

2. Lord Surya Narayana’s boon:
The Sun God bestowed one-hundredth of his radiance upon Hanuman and made him an unparalleled scholar of the scriptures. (During this period of education, Hanuman married Suvarchala, the daughter of the Sun).

3. Boon from Varuna Deva:
Varuna Deva, the god of water, granted a boon that even after reaching the age of one million years, Hanuman would never die from water or his noose.

4. Boon from Yamaraj:
Dharmaraj Yamaraj granted Hanuman the boon of remaining eternally invulnerable to his Yama-danda (sentence) and also blessed him to remain disease-free forever.

5. Kubera’s Boon:
The Yaksha king Kubera granted Hanuman a boon that he would never fear defeat in battle. Legend has it that Kubera gifted Hanuman the divine mace that always remains with him.

6. Lord Shiva’s boon:
Mahadev granted Hanuman the boon of being invulnerable to all his weapons. This boon enabled Hanuman to break Shiva’s trident, which Kumbhakarna had thrown at Lakshmana, during the Ramayana War.

7. Lord Vishwakarma’s boon:
Vishvakarma, the divine architect, granted Hanuman’s body a boon that he would always protect him from all the dangerous weapons he had created.

8. The boon of the Supreme Being Brahma:
Brahma granted him the boon of changing his form at will, the ability to travel anywhere, and longevity. He also blessed him that even his Brahmastra would only bind Hanuman for one moment (approximately 48 minutes). To uphold this promise, Hanuman himself was bound by Meghnad’s Brahmastra in Lanka.

Thus, having received these eight special divine blessings, young Hanuman became the mighty and invincible Bajrangbali, who later performed many amazing feats in the work of Lord Shri Ram. Jai Shri Ram! Jai Hanuman!
