Baba Gauri Shankar Mahadev Mandir Kannauj Uttar Pradesh

At a distance of about three kilometers from Kannauj district headquarters, there is a very ancient Baba Gauri Shankar temple, about 1600 years old, near the Raja’s Fort. The special thing about this temple is that it is the only temple in the whole world, in which the entire Shiva family is actually visible in the Shivalinga.
It is believed in the Puranas that the earrings of Mother Sati had fallen in Kannauj, due to which Kannauj was named Kanyakubja. Mahant of the temple, Mathura Prasad Trivedi tells that this temple is thousands of years old. King Harshvardhan and King Jaichand used to worship in this temple. There is a self-proclaimed Shivalinga here. The entire Shiva family is actually present in it. Devotees from all over the country and from abroad come to visit this temple. The devotee who worships here with true feelings, gets the blessings of Lord Shiva as well as the entire Shiva family. In the sixth century, King Harshvardhan used to worship in this temple. It is also believed that the Shivalinga in this temple is self-existent. The relation of this temple can also be linked to ancient times. King Harshvardhan had also appointed 1000 priests to worship Lord Shiva in this temple. It is also believed that once in the month of Sawan, Mother Ganga used to come here inside the temple to perform Jalabhishek of Baba Gauri Shankar.
