Baba Manohar Nath Temple: Eighteen Bhuji Maa does welfare

Meerut: The antiquity and historicity of Baba Manohar Nath temple situated in Surajkund is centuries old. Not only is the uniquely shaped Shivlinga old, the idol of the Mother Goddess was also installed many decades ago.

The history of the temple is hundreds of years old. The door frame of the temple is of stone and the beautiful carvings on it are still visible today. It is said that the revolutionaries had held a meeting here during the first freedom struggle, after which they left for the Aughadnath temple.

Mahamandaleshwar Peethadhishwar Shri Shri 108 Maharaj tells that the history of Baba Manohar Nath is hundreds of years old, but the life of the idol of Maa Durga present in the temple premises was consecrated about 30 years ago.

Mother’s idol is special

Usually the Durga idol is eight-armed, but the idol of Maa Durga present in the temple is eighteen-armed. According to the Guru Maa who lives in the temple, this is the only temple in the entire Meerut in which this grand statue is installed. Apart from this, the idol of Kali Maa facing south is present in the temple.

The eternal flame brought by Jwala ji eight years ago always remains lit in the temple. It is believed that every wish is fulfilled by lighting the Akhand Jyot for 45 days. Mata Rani fulfills the wishes made with true heart. Devotees from far and wide come here during Navratri.

There is a grand recitation of Durga Saptashati during Navratri. On Ashtami and Navami, there is a huge Bhandara, in which girls are invited.

Ramlila takes place here every year, the biggest effigy burning of the city also takes place here.
