Dholpur. Vaastu proven, octagonal, Shiva Yantra shaped ancient Kailash Dham is famous by the name of Chopra Mahadev Temple in Dholpur, Rajasthan. Archaeologists have considered this temple to be a 500 year old structure. This is the oldest Shiva temple of Dholpur district headquarters. There is a square shaped pond in the courtyard of the temple. Due to this, this Shiva temple also came to be known as Chopra Temple.
According to the Archeology Department, this temple is about five hundred years old. The height of the temple is 150 feet. To reach the sanctum sanctorum one has to climb 25 stairs. After climbing twenty-five steps the devotees reach the sanctum sanctorum.
This temple is unique from the architectural point of view, its sanctum sanctorum is octagonal. There are eight doors in its eight walls. Attractive sculptures are carved on every door. The idol of Brahmaji is present at the entrance of the temple. This Shiva temple is situated at a distance of about a hundred steps on the left side on the Gwalior-Agra road.
