Share

A pinnacle of Sanatan Dharma – The origin of Dholagarh Devi Maa. The place is said to have been setup by the kings of old times to take blessings from Devi Maa to fight the battels and ward off the evil eyes from the kingdoms.

The ancestral deity of many Marwaris, this Devsthanam is situated atop a hill in Dholagarh and is accessible by road only from Jaipur, Bharatpur or Agra. Once you reach the foothills, you may take the 300+ stairs to climb. Besides the main temple, there is a Bhairavji temple too, which should be visited to take blessings.

There is an ancient temple of the goddess in Dhaulagarh in Kathumar area of Alwar district. Here the goddess is seated in the form of Brahmacharini. The temple priest Dinesh Sharma said that the 15th generation of our family is worshipping the goddess. According to historians, Charan Bhaat was Ala Udal. In this, Udal’s favorite goddess is the goddess of Dholagarh. The history of the temple is said to be from the Ramayana period. According to the pundits who came from Nepal, during the war between Ram and Ravana, Sugriva’s son Dadhival prayed to Dholagarh Devi and asked for power. After this, he went to war.

According to the information, the goddess appeared before a Banjara merchant from Aligarh and after this, the Banjara built a temple of the goddess. Even today, when the Banjara merchant’s family comes here for darshan, they offer only cowries. The idol of the goddess is made of marble. Along with the mother, Jaya and Vijaya, out of the sixty-four yoginis, are also present here. There is a huge crowd of devotees here during Navratri.

The fair of Mata is held from Panchami to Ekadashi of the month of Vaishakh. The midnight of Saptami is said to be the birth of Mata. Therefore, special decoration is done on this day. The priest said that the special thing about this temple is that in other goddess temples, the mother goddess is seated on a lion and the lion’s face is towards the right, but here the lion is standing near the mother goddess and its face is towards the north which is a symbol of peace and love. There are 163 steps to reach the temple.
