Broken Shivalinga is worshiped in this temple of Madhya Pradesh

There is a temple of Lord Bholenath in Birsinghpur, just 35 kilometers away from Satna district headquarters, where the self-proclaimed broken Shivalinga (Lord Shiva) is worshipped. It is known as Gavinath Dham. The description of this temple is also found in the Patal section of Padma Purana. Every year lakhs of devotees gather here on Monday of Sawan. Gavinath Dham is called Upalinga of Ujjain Mahakal.

This temple is famous by the name of Gavinath Dham in Birsinghpur of the district. Here the broken Shivalinga of Lord Bholenath is worshipped. During the month of Sawan and Mahashivratri, lakhs of devotees from other states including Madhya Pradesh come here to offer prayers. This Shivalinga has been described in Patal Purana.

It is believed that, according to Padma Purana, Raja Veer Singh used to rule Birsinghpur town in Treta Yuga. At that time the name of Birsinghpur was Devpur. Raja Veer Singh used to go to Ujjain on horseback every day to offer water to Lord Mahakal and after having darshan of Lord Mahakal, he used to offer water to him. It is said that this sequence continued for about 60 years. As the king grew old, he started having trouble going to Ujjain. Once he expressed his wish to Lord Mahakal that God should give him darshan in his city so that he can worship you.

It is believed that Lord Mahakal appeared in the dream of Raja Veer Singh and asked him to appear in Devpur. After this, an incident came to light in the house of a person named Gavi Yadav in the city. A Shivalinga came out from the stove of the house at night. Gavi Yadav’s mother pushed it inside by hitting it with a pestle. Shivlinga came out again and was put inside again. This sequence continued for several days. One day Mahakal again came in the king’s dream and said, I am pleased with your worship and devotion and want to appear in your city. But Gavi Yadav does not let me leave.

The king called Gaavi Yadav and told him about the dream, after which the place of Gaavi’s house was vacated. The king built a grand temple at that place. , At the behest of Lord Mahakal, Shivlinga was named Gavinath Dham. Since then Lord Bholenath came to be known as Gavinath.
