Shakti Peeth is a historical temple of Maa Garh Devi in Madhaura of Chhapra, where there is a constant flow of devotees throughout the year. The history of this temple is very old, it is believed about the history of the temple that King Daksh Prajapati had performed the ritual of a yagya. His daughter Sati also stubbornly reached there without being invited, but seeing no place for her husband Lord Shiva there, she could not bear this insult and sacrificed her life by jumping into the Havan Kund of the Yagyashala. After which the angry Mahadev lifted the dead body of Sati on his shoulders and started performing Tandav in the sky, due to which the entire universe got frightened. Seeing this, on the request of the deities, Lord Vishnu cut Sati’s body into many pieces in the sky with Sudarshan Chakra to divert Lord Shankar’s attention.
During this time, the sacred blood of Sati was sprinkled on this place, where later the Garh Devi temple was established. Another story related to the temple is quite popular here that on the invitation of Rahsu Bhagat of Shakti Peeth Temple Thawe, Mata Kauri had gone from Kamakhya to Thawe while resting at various places. During this time, before reaching Thawe, Mother had rested at the holy place of Gadhdevi temple of Madhaura. This is the reason why two Pindias of Mata are established here. This place is known as Siddha Shaktipeeth.
Although the main gates of all the temples are towards the east, but the gate of the main temple for worship in Gadhdevi temple of Madhaura is towards the west. This is the first temple in the country, where the puja gate is towards the west. It is said that when the British came here with the desire to set up industries in Madhaura, they were unaware of the temples and beliefs here. Whatever work he did, he would fail. One night, in a dream, his mother told an Englishman to ask him to get the work done near the temple, then the Englishman refused to accept it and said that if you yourself are Shakti, then do miracles. Then the gate of the temple changed from east to west; when the British saw it in the morning, they were shocked. Then, a little away from there, four factories of Sugar Mill, Morton Mill, Saran Engineering and Distrill Water were established in Madhaura, which are now in ruins.
